Did you guys know that Martha's paint is being discontinued at Home Depot? I stopped in there a few weeks ago and discovered that. I quickly picked up another paint swatch since they said that they will still have the codes to make the colors. This week, I stopped in quickly and found that the pre-made samples of paint that was in the display case for just 50 cents each. These samples have a built in paint brush and are great colors which will be great crafting paint. Hurry on over and see what you can get too!

Autumn Letters
I found a post today that I had forgotten about. Since I loved my Summer letters so much, I decided to make myself a set of Autumn letters.
Unlike my September wreath that is full of color, this one lent itself to be more neutral with shades of brown, copper, and cream. Mmm...I love ribbon.
It's a toss up on my favorite paper on this. Either it's the "M" or the "A and U". Depends on the day, but the "M" has had the upper hand for a while now.
I have officially decided to make them for each season but I can't help but itch to make something with richer colors for November. Monthly words is something that I don't really want to do but somehow, it keeps creeping up in my mind. Halloween needed "Haunted". (I guess I never shared those either.) Christmas will want something different, why not November too?
Today, it doesn't feel much like Autumn. I took the kids to the movie this afternoon and we came out to a huge snow storm. Now they are enjoying the snow and I'm enjoying the warmth of my house. That is what I'm thankful for today.

Halloween Bunting
Whoa! Has it really been that long since I blogged? Didn't seem that long ago. So sorry to leave you with the fry bread for so long. I finally took some pictures off of my camera of the Halloween bunting I made for my house this year. I haven't gotten back my other Halloween bunting yet from Simply Handmade and I just couldn't let my window go bare! Well, that and I had access to a whole lot of cute fabric.
My first banner was fun with bright green, purple, black and white with spooky skeletons hanging by a noose. I still love this banner but not as much as I love those little girlies holding. Be still my heart! They have grown sooo much!
This years banner is black, white and orange with silver glittered skellies.
No cute little models to hold up this banner. I did, however, make my suspicious neighbor nervous taking pictures on this fence. He kept peaking over the window at me. I just waved and said hello like the crazy lady I am.
One of my favorite fabrics -the vintage kids. Also love the glittered skeletons!
I handmade the bias tape and added the pom-poms because everything needs pom-poms. Even my brother-in-law mentioned that he would like some pom-poms for his truck. I've got a sneaking suspicion that he was making fun of my little addiction.
We will be carving our pumpkins soon and then our porch will officially be ready for those trick-or-treaters! Better get our costumes finished!

Simple Shadow Box Art
My sister had sent my daughter these beautiful, beaded shoes while she lived in India. Unfortunately for us, little sweetness feet were too deliciously chubby for them. I tucked these beauties away to keep them safe. See how pretty the beading is?
Little sweetness is now big sweetness and her room is being reworked. Together, we put together this simple shadow box. She picked out the background paper and got to squeeze the hot glue on the back of the shoes. She was so excited making it and told me how she wanted to be a crafter just like me when she grows up. She was thrilled when I informed her that she already was. You should see the constant stream of art and projects that she churns out!
A simple, but rewarding and meaningful project. We love the way that it turned out.

It's all about....the shoes!
This year, I thought it would be fun to get my sisters and mother together for a crafting day. I set about to find a project that we could make together. I enlisted the talented Ms. Jodi to cut some wood for us and voila! cute witches boots for all.
We quickly paused for a delicious fall lunch of homemade butternut squash soup with freshly baked garlic breadsticks. Mmmm! Delicious!
We were having such a great time that my sisters wanted more, so I taught them all how to make their own bat chandeliers. Glitter was flying, tulle was tying and laughing and talking all around. I highly recommend having a crafting day with your best family and friends.
My boots ended up on top of my armoire with a little grouping of pumpkins with fancy witches hats and handmade mask.
A fun day indeed!

A Summer Wreath
With the help of my 10 year old son and supplies on hand, I can gladly check off my list of making a summer wreath. Don't you love it when you can check something off your self imposed list? I do!
Please tell me that I'm not the only one that gets crazy and insists on doing something right then and only right then because no other time is better than right that minute! It didn't matter that it was nearly 10pm. That no child was snug in their bed. That the laundry wasn't folded and the dishes still sat in the sink. Nope. It was wreath making time!
Here's where I think that I'm accidentally very clever. I wanted to sew the flower layers together with some embroidery floss to add a little depth and cuteness but I didn't have any thread in the colors I wanted. Not wanting to mess up the flowers that I had arranged, I stuck straigh pins in them to keep them straight. To my surprise, the pins looked cute! The pins made it easy to re-arrange and the little dot of yellow, white and red are perfect in the flowers.

I'm still working on the frame on my wreath holder. It supposed to hold pictures of the seasons in it, but the boutique I bought it from only had the fall and winter pictures with it. I temporarily put a piece of scrap paper and another flower on it for now. I'm thinking of putting "Welcome" or "No Soliciting". Maybe our last name or house number? I may get to it someday.
Awww! Don't ya love it when something just comes together and is happy cute too? Happy, happy Summer!

Paper Hearts Tutorial
Have an adorable, yet very bored kindergartener at your house*? Here's a super cute, quick and easy Valentine's project that you can do together.
*The adorable, yet bored kindergartener is optional and not neccessary for this project.
Regular children, happy children or even no children at all yields similar results. :)
1. Gather your supplies. Paper cutter, old double-sided scrapbook paper in Kindergarteners choice, ribbon and a good stapler.
2. Cut paper into 1" strips. Quite possibly the favorite part of the activity.
3. Then cut those strips to two of each size - 12", 11", 10", 9" and 8".
4. Starting with your 12" strip, lay your 11" strip on top of it and so forth until you have stacked five strips. Repeat so you have two stacks of five. I alternated the pattern since we only used one style of paper. These are especially cute in multi-colors.
5. The stack the strips that your longest strip is back to back. This the top of your heart. It's important that you have the same pattern facing each other. Staple about one inch up on the stack that are all the same length. (I have also attached the hearts together with a hole punch and a brad with a piece of ribbon sandwiched in between to hang it from. This method works best for attaching the ribbon. Otherwise, you can glue a ribbon in-between the layers or thread it through after like I have done in this tutorial.)
6. Bend down the strips so that it forms the heart shape. You will want to make sure that all the layers match up flush to the base of your heart. This makes the cute fan out layered heart.
7. Do to both sides and staple or punch brad in it to hold. Voila! Super cute heart!
I threaded ribbon through the hearts to hang them. This one was my little helpers favorite. "Ooo! It's SOOOOOOO bootiful!" she exclaimed.
You can make them any size as long as you follow the basic directions. The little one in the picture below was made with the scraps.
I would love to see your hearts if you make them too. Please send them my way!

Mailboxes
Aren't these the cutest? I would love to make these cute mailboxes for my cute kidlets. I can imagine them coming downstairs for breakfast and finding their Valentines we made for them with lots of yummy heart shaped candy and cinnamon lips. Here's a tutorial for them. Don't you love those ruffles and ric-rac trim? (Those dots make me want to make another Valentine's Banner.) You could customize it just right for your favorite Valentine.
Speaking of mailboxes, I would also love a new mailbox. Our poor mailbox was hit in a drive-by pumpkin accident last year. Poor thing is all bent up and doesn't close properly. Our neighborhood originally had mailboxes on the houses. I would love to pick out a shiney, new mailbox for my house. Maybe something like this? No more walking all the way down the driveway! Ha. Yes, I am that lazy.
PS: Come back on Monday! I have a give-away lined up for next week!

Valentines
It's no secret here, I love Valentine's Day. I love the hearts and the lovey goodness. Valentine's to me means handmade gifts and heart shaped candies.
My kids love to draw. The sonny loves to draw Star Wars battles and the girly-girl loves to draw love notes. I would love to make them each a sketchbook. Maybe something as simple as Design Mom's?

The Family Fun website has a bunch of cute ideas. I think the kids would all dig scratch and win Valentine's.
I also want to make these sweet little felt envelopes found at Roots and Wings Co. Simple and sweet and I can see the littles playing with them long after Valentine's Day has passed.

Inspirations
There hasn't been a whole lot of crafting going on here, but there has been a whole lot of cleaning. Dare I say that Spring cleaning fever has caught me early? Possibly. Whatever the reason, it feels good to clean it up. Usually, I clean up the room, casually getting rid of things here and there that were no longer needed, then taking the rest of the mess and organizing it into bins and toy boxes and what nots only to have them multiply and grow and explode out of whatever "organizing" I just did.
This time around, however, I just got rid of it. Cold blooded, ruthlessness, get it out of here and let me tell you, it feels great! The kids didn't notice and I didn't notice and I can't just can't help myself. I've been tossing, cleaning and organizing all January. I've got a vision for my home and I'm making my way there slowly.
That is, until I get to the spare room. The room that houses all of my crafting goodies. My harden heart softens when looking at my crafting things. Pretty papers and silky ribbons, tassel toppers, miles of fringes, little embellishments, stamps and inks, scrapbooking supplies, home decor projects, fabric and felt. Oh how my little heart goes pitter-patter.
Pitter, patter, pitter, patter.....it's still a mess. A slightly better mess, but mess nevertheless.
A plan must be made. The stash must be contained yet accessible yet pretty. Everything Etsy has lots of pretty inspiration this month and when I went over there today, she posted even more pretties. I want these suitcases.
I'm saving my pennies for this workhorse but the question remains, which color shall I get? Black-brown or white?
It's a vicious cycle.

I know that I want the IKEA expedit shelf. My old Target shelf has nine cubbies, the IKEA shelf has 25! Oh the organizing and storing I could do! The old bookshelves all contained into one unit.
I've wanted it ever since I saw it in Tara Whitney's office two years ago.
And love it more in Benita's home found on her blog Chez Larsson.

Quick and Easy Spider Earrings
While shopping at Pier One, I saw the cutest pair of spider earrings. They were jeweled and sparkly and spooky cool. They had the whole nine yards going for them but, at $9 a pair, I just didn't want to spend that. So I made my own. A pair of Bo Bunny spider brads with the backs snipped off then glued to a earring post and voila! Quick and easy spider earrings sure to bring spooky delight on Halloween night.

Super Simple Paper Covered Star Tutorial
Want to make a cute star like mine?? My mom wanted me to make her a Halloween star so I took a few really quick and wobbly photos of the process. It's super simple and fun! Best of all, you can do it with any occasion you want. Here's what you need:
Metal star - any size but best to not go bigger than your paper.
- Several different scrapbook papers. I had got six different papers and used five patterns. I just played with it until I liked the combinations. You could do as little as two different papers just alternating patterns. It's all part of the fun!
- Ribbon to co-ordinate. Optional.
- Regular Mod Podge and Glitter Mod Podge. Glitter Mod Podge is optional, but it's fun!
- Foam brush.
- Paint - spray or acrylic.
- Ink to match your papers.
- Plain paper and pen/pencil/marker/crayon to make pattern.
- Paper cutter and/or scissors.
Here's how:
- If your star looks like mine, spray paint it quickly to make a solid background. I used matte spray paint to make a nice rough service to adhere the paper to.
- Make a pattern of one of the star arms. One side is enough, but both sides of the star arm work too. I made a pattern of one side of the arm and flipped it over to trace the pattern for the other side of the star arm.
- Trace pattern onto scrapbook paper. First one side, then flip your pattern over and trace the other side of the arm. Cut out with your paper cutter or scissors.
- Play with your pattern until you like it. I flipped some of the patterns and found that I liked a combination of six papers the best.
- Ink all the edges of the paper. You can distress it lightly or heavily. It's all up to you. This step really makes a difference because you are blending the white core of the paper in with the star.
- Add a light layer of mod podge to your star and start sticking them on. Make sure that you get all of the edges down smoothly. Continue until you have all the papers adhered to your star. (Disclaimer: I admit, I am a lazy crafter. Mod Podge can be messy. It's best to done on a table and not on your family room floor with nothing but an old record to protect the floor because your table was covered with ribbon and fabrics.)
- Smooth out any bubbles adding more mod podge to any areas that have unstuck. Then let dry and add another layer of mod podge on top. When that layer is dry, add a layer of glitter mod podge to make it fun.
- Add ribbon if you like, then hang up and enjoy! (Yes, I forgot to take a picture of her finished star. I was under a need-the-star-for-a-party-tonight deadline.)
Voila! Super simple and your options are limitless. You could make it girly, boyish, taylored, festive, fun, bright or subdued. If you make one, let me know! I would love to see it and post it on this blog.

Custom Invites
One of the perks of working at a scrapbook store is being able to do some side jobs for customers. People want custom invites but don't have the time or energy to create them. Most claim that they aren't creative, but I beg to disagree. I think that everyone is creative but some just don't allow themselves to be.

With that, I made these simple invites in my favorite little boy colors - green, orange, blue and brown. Super cute and simple. Perfect for mass production. I think that a little baby charm hanging from the ribbon would of been the icing on the cake, but the budget would not allow it. (Card is also super cute with orange ribbon if you prefer.)
I recently made baby invitations for a darling girl hosting a shower for a baby boy. All she requested was that the invites would be playful and simple. Having free reign is my favorite kind of job.
