bos gaurus is a different animal according to wikipedia with common name gaur. and കാട്ടുപോത്ത് in malayalam. gayal is the common name for bos frontalis. please check and correct. quote:"The gayal differs in several important particulars from the gaur. It is somewhat smaller, with proportionately shorter limbs, and stands much lower at the withers."Gayal#Characteristics
- think we may need a reference for that, from what the ICZN has said Bos gaurus is the oldest and valid name for these mammals. I see no reference that Bos frontalis is a different species. This requires a peer reviewed reference that makes the nomenclatural act to resurrect the name Bos frontalis in the sbsence of this they are the same species with Bos gaurus being the senior synonym. Do you have such references for this? Cheers Faendalimas talk 19:08, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- even if they are not different, i think gayal(Bos frontalis) is the domesticated gaur. then i think the original species is (Bos gaurus) so the page name should be "bos gaurus". any how let experts do the correction. i am just pointing a problem--Faendalimas talk 19:08, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
