Facilities

  • Classrooms and Tutorial Rooms

The Institution has adequate number of classrooms which is verified and approved by AICTE. The classrooms are well ventilated and have the provision for good lighting, thereby avoiding unnecessary expenditure on electricity consumption through lights, Fans and ACs.

The Institution has ICT enabled classrooms provided with LCD projectors. The facilities are created to enable an effective and efficient teaching-learning transaction.

Each department has tutorial classroom to conduct remedial classes and address the need of slow learners.

  • Laboratories

Well equipped, and well-maintained laboratories with sufficient hardware and licensed/open source software are available in each department to carry out curriculum-oriented lab practical’s, hands on sessions and research activities. All computer labs are provided with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).

  • Seminar Halls, Conference Room, Interview Cabins and Board Room

The institution has conference room, board room and seminar halls, to conduct meetings, conferences, workshops and symposia for students, faculty/staff. It is equipped with LCD projector and public address system.

SMVITM Central Library

The Central Library at SMVITM is housed in a spacious three-storey state of the art independent block. Two floors of the block are occupied exclusively by the Central Library. It has about 1300 square meters of built-up area.

About the Lab

The Language Lab at SMVITM is a state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment to aid in imparting language skills. The Laboratory is effectively utilized by students and faculty members for various self-enhancement and soft skill development activities. Laboratory proves beneficial for those students who are poor in use of English language. Students from rural areas who are generally weak in English can have sufficient ear training in the language lab. It aims at confidence-building among students for interactions and presentations in English. The basic purpose of the lab is to provide students a platform to enhance English language skills, communication skills and to practice soft skills.

Standard Operating Procedure
  1. Language Laboratory is a supporting facility in which is mandatory requirement stipulated by AICTE to be implemented as part of teaching activity in SMVITM. All the Departments and Study Programs in SMVITM use Language Laboratory to enhance the English Competence.
  2. Language Lab committee members are the In-charge of language lab. The departmental coordinator monitor language lab department wise.
  3. Faculty members and students enter Language Laboratory by taking off the footwear and put them on the shoes shelf. The purpose is to make English Language Laboratory keep clean and neat.
  4. Students put the bags on the next to their chairs, and turn their cellular phones off. It is for the comfort and convenience of teaching learning process.
  5. Students are permitted to enter the Language Lab only with their Identity Card.
  6. Students sign in the user attendance book.
  7. Each user either faculty member or student must be responsible to the English Language Laboratory equipment.
  8. Students listen the content of audio by putting the headset.
  9. Students listen attentively and focus to the announced recording, and write down the important points, and make sure about the whole process with concentration, so that it will be effective for the developing of comprehension skills among them.
  10. Students do the assignments given by the faculty members by the following methods:
    • To follow the pronunciation of words and sentences.
    • To change the form/ type the sentences.
    • To listen audio conversation: monolog, dialogue.
    • To answer the exercises.
    • To discuss the content of audio conversations.
    • To give the comments.
    • To do the individual or group exercises.
  11. Before the course ends, the faculty member closes the teaching learning process by giving the conclusion of the content, in order to confirm that the students know about the content they have taught clearly.

There are multiple sports facilities to keep our students and staff engaged and physically fit.

Outdoor and Indoor Sports Facilities

Every student is encouraged to take active part in outdoor and indoor activities. Our college has set up facilities/grounds for athletics and games such as cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, throw ball, javelin throw, discus throw, kabaddi, tennis, badminton, table-tennis, chess, carom and many more.

 

 

 

Athletics

Athletics is an exclusive collection of sporting events that involve competitive running, jumping, throwing and many more. The most common types of athletic competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running and race walking. SMVITM has a very efficient team of athletes. Team not only takes part in the sporting events held at our college, but also participates in the competitions held in other Institutes and Universities across the country. The Institute shall encourage the students to participate in inter University level and Intra University level events.

 

Games

Playing and being involved in the games improves confidence, boosts personality and provides a good deal of excitement and entertainment in life. We encourage and facilitate the students to take part in all types of games activities conducted at inter and intra-college level competitions.

In addition with sports and games facilities, we provide gymnasium facilities to all students and staff. In order to ensure a sound body and mind, health and fitness, gymnasium facilities are provided to all the students and staff. A modern gym, with all the latest gadgets has been set up in the college.

Committee Roles and Responsibility

Chief Warden & Assistant wardens:

  • Supervise overall functioning of the hostels, welfare of the students and discipline.
  • Be in continuous contact with caretakers/wardens and students
  • Maintain the database of the residents of hostels.
  • Periodical discussion of hostel issues with institution head and implementation of the decisions taken by the management/ authorities of the institution.

  • To supervise the sports and cultural activities of students in the hostel
  • To solve the day to day problems of the students
  • To deal with the acts of indiscipline of the students & report the cases of serious indiscipline to higher authorities
  • To maintain the various registers and ledgers necessary for smooth functioning of the hostel from time to time
  • Communicate with the parents/guardians of the inmates regarding indiscipline activity or misbehaviour of the student in the hostel premises.
  • To maintain overall ambiance of the hostel premises & ensure proper maintenance of hostel rooms, TV hall, toilets, mess and sports equipment’s.
  • To advise and guide in smooth running of the mess i.e. display of the menu and inspect the quality of the food.
  • To maintain the leave record of the students and to keep a watch on the in and out register.
  • To identify slow learners and report to chief warden.
  • To ensure proper water supply and drinking water arrangement in the hostel.
  • To keep a watch so that no unwanted student/person resides in the hostel without the permission of the warden & maintain the record of the Guests/visitors.
  • To supervise the work of sweeper and security guards.
  • To perform all other hostel related work as ordered by Chief Warden/Assistant Warden.

Canteen Proprietor:

  • Canteen Proprietor is responsible for efficient operation of canteen and hostel mess.
  • Procure vegetables, food ingredients and other necessary items required for canteen and hostel mess.
  • To ensure quality of food served in canteen and hostel mess.
  • To ensure hygiene and clean environment in canteen.
  • Provide all kind of statutory benefits to the employees of the canteen.
  • Fulfil the requirements to get the certificate from Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

SMVITM campus has a separate cafeteria that is well ventilated and clean with sufficient number of seating and service capacity for students/staff.

The Cafeteria provides hygienic and delicious South Indian, North Indian, Chinese food items. It also provides bakery items, chats, fruit juices and variety of ice creams.

Local BusLocal Bus

The Institution provides bus facility to daily commuters for both students and staff from Udupi, Kundapur, Hiriyadka, Saibarakatte and Manipal. Around 300 commuters avail this facility for conveyance to and from the college. An Institutional Bus coordinator is available for any queries regarding transportation.

As an eco-initiative, Institute has set up Sewage Treatment plant with a capacity of 130 kilo litres using batch reactor technology. Maintenance of the same is done through the supplier every month where 40 litres of chlorine is used to clean it and the recycled water is reused for gardening purpose.

Solar panels of 125KW is set up in the Institute to save electricity and solar water heaters are set up in the hostels for student’s convenience. The maintenance is done as per the guidelines from the supplier.

College has a stationery shop and also a photocopying center inside the campus with subsidized rates for the benefit of students.

Medical AidMedical AidCollege provides medical aid facility for the students in emergency cases. Medical Doctors visit the college on call, for any medical needs of students and staff members. Sick room is available for students and staff of SMVITM.
