Music to Be Murdered By is the eleventh studio album by American rapper Eminem, released on January 17, 2020 by Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records with no prior announcement, similar to his previous album Kamikaze (2018).[5] The album was produced by Dr. Dre, and features collaborations with Black Thought, Q-Tip, Juice Wrld, Ed Sheeran, Young M.A, Skylar Grey, Don Toliver, Anderson Paak and Royce da 5'9", among others.[6]

Alongside the album, Eminem also released a music video for "Darkness",[7] directed by James Larese.[8]

Album title and cover designs

[change | change source]

The album was released with two different cover designs; one featuring Eminem wearing a trilby hat and holding a shovel, and the other featuring Eminem, hatless, holding an ax and a gun to his own head. Both versions credit Eminem under the name Slim Shady.

The album's title and cover art allude to the 1958 Jeff Alexander album, Alfred Hitchcock Presents Music to Be Murdered By. Via social media Eminem posted an image of the Jeff Alexander album cover, which features Alfred Hitchcock too holding an ax and a gun to his own head, stating the album was "inspired by the master, Uncle Alfred!".[8]
