In preparation of Trek I am including ideas for 5 gallon buckets. Everyone will need a bucket with a lid. These buckets will hold each person's supplies. The handcarts are designed to hold this size so that pulling the weight will be evenly distributed. I suggest that each lid be covered with some padding. The padding could be newspapers.
