New research has identified the genetic basis of resistance to ash dieback

Identifying ash trees involves observing key characteristics. Ash trees typically have opposite branching, where leaves and buds align directly across from each other along the stems. The compound leaves consist of several leaflets, usually 5 to 9, arranged in an evenly feather-like pattern. Ash trees bear distinctive winged seeds, known as samaras or "keys," which are elongated and flat. Their bark varies with species, ranging from smooth to diamond-shaped patterns.

Green ash is a fast growing tree with incredible golden yellow leaves in fall. This tree is native to the prairies and is well suited for drought and cold. Green ash can also tolerate soil compaction, periods of flooding and a wide variety of soils including alkaline. This makes green ash ideally suited for use in urban environments.
