Admeenistratively, Cuba is dividit intae 15 provinces an ane special municipality no includit in ony province. The last modification wis appruivit in August 2010 (bi the Cuban Naitional Assembly), splittin Havana province intae twa new provinces: Artemisa (which incorporates the three eastren municipalities o the neebour Pinar del Río) an Mayabeque. The new provinces stairtit functionin frae 1 Januar 2011. Havana Ceety Province (Ciudad de La Habana) recovered its oreeginal name: La Habana .

Cuba's "special municipality" is the Isla de la Juventud ("Island o Youth"), kent till the 1970s as the Isla de Pinos ("Isle o Pines").

- Pinar del Río
- La Habana, includit the ceety o Havana, Mayabeque an some municipalities o the current Artemisa Province (prior tae 1970: 5 municipalities; frae 1970 tae 2011, 8 municipalities, includin Artemisa ceety itsel)
- Matanzas
- Las Villas (afore 1940, "Santa Clara"), contained the present day provinces o Cienfuegos, Villa Clara an Sancti Spíritus
- Camagüey (afore 1899, "Puerto Príncipe"), contained the present day provinces o Camagüey an Ciego de Ávila, as well as some twa municipalities o the current Las Tunas Province (prior tae 1970).
- Oriente (afore 1905, "Santiago de Cuba"), contained the present day provinces o Las Tunas, Granma, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba an Guantánamo
