The name 'Chvrches' is nae related tae religion, the members chose it fur it sounded "cool".

Beginnings (2011–12)

Afore Chvrches, Iain Cook wis a member of Aereogramme an The Unwinding Hours. He an aa wrote music fur film an TV.[1] Martin Doherty wis a member of The Twilight Sad.[2] Lauren Mayberry wis a member of twa baunds: Boyfriend/Girlfriend an Blue Sky Archives.[3]

In 2011, Cook an Doherty baith studied at the Varsiity o Strathclyde wrote some sangs an asked Mayberry tae sing fur twa demos.[1] Mayberry wis at the Varsity o Strathclyde an aw whaur she teuk a degree in law, maisters in journalism, winnin the Royal Environmental Health Institute for Scotland Journalism Award in 2010. [4]

In 2011, Cook, Doherty and Mayberry decidit tae form a baund.[1]

The first time thay played live, thay uised the fake name "Shark Week".

Thay released twa singles in 2012: "Lies" an "The Mother We Share".

Recover EP an The Bones of What You Believe (2013–14)

In Januar 2013, the baund signed wi the label Glassnote Records.[5] Thay released the Recover EP oan 25 Mairch 2013 in the UK.[6]

Oan 20 September 2013 thay released thair début album The Bones of What You Believe oan Virgin Records.

Every Open Eye (2015–2017)

Love is Dead (2017–present)

The baund stairtit work oan thair third album in Februar 2017 in Los Angeles, Californie.[7] It's name is Love is Dead an wis released oan 25 May 2018.

The baund hiv released fower albums, all wur in the UK tap 10 an makkit tae the tap 40 in the US Billboard 200. Chvrches hae forby performit at the warld's major weel kent muisic sangshaws, includin Glastonbury, Coachella, SXWS, Reading an Leeds, T in the Pairk and Lollapalooza.[4]

In 2024, Mayberry wis awardit an honorary degree fae the Varsity o Strathclyde, for music an forby her chairity wark, includin wi Rape Crisis Glasgow.[4]
