Reno Fly Shop Re-Up Program
Fly fishing gear is fun and functional. While quality equipment can last generations it is often fun to upgrade to new modern rods and reels or gear up for an upcoming trip to a new fishery.
Our Re-Up Program allows you to trade in your current rods and reels for in store or online store credit to purchase the new gear you have been looking for.
Reno Fly Shop's Re-Up Program explained
The Reno Fly Shop Re-Up Program gives you the benefit of trading in your current gear (only rods and reels are accepted) for immediate credit towards any purchase of NEW in store or online NEW inventory. Once we have completed our Re-Up transaction, your new store credit can instantly be applied to the purchase of the new equipment you want. This isn’t limited to inventory on hand. We are happy to special order an item that we currently don’t have.
You will receive an offer before you ship your equipment to us. Once we both have agreed upon a trade in value you will then ship the equipment to us. If quality is as provided in our email communication you will have a store credit provided within 24 hours.
The advantage is that there is no waiting for your gear to sell on an online website - We will issue you a store credit for your fly rods and reels and you get to purchase new gear from us the same day!
How to Re-Up
EMAIL COMMUNICATION IS REQUIRED. THIS ALLOWS US TO HAVE COPIES OF OUR COMMUNICATION.
Begin by sending an email to jim@renoflyshop.com describing the gear you would like to trade in. This step is required because we need to agree upon an estimate and it will create a record of the transaction. For your convenience we have provided a form for you to use when sending in your gear. You can find it here. If you prefer to simply write an email please include the following information:
- Brand
- Model
- Condition Level (review the summary table below and chose the best description that represents the condition of the gear you want to trade in)
- Number of Pieces (for rods)
- Right or Left Hand Retrieve (for reels)
- If Your Reel Has Backing and/or Line on it: Line type/weight and Brand
Any images you would like to share (this is optional but helps us make a best estimate of trade-in value). We will review and email an offer of trade-in value.
Once we have made an agreement on the trade in value, you will be directed to print and fill out the intake form and mail with your trade-in gear to the following address.

You are responsible for shipping trade-in gear to us. We strongly encourage you to ship your gear to us using a service (USPS, FedEX, UPS, etc.) that provides you tracking information and the option of self-insuring the contents.
Please be sure to enclose the completed intake form with your shipment.
Only once the equipment is inspected will you receive the trade-in credit. Gear that is not in the condition agreed upon will be promptly returned.
LOCAL CUSTOMERS: If you are in the Reno/Sparks area, please follow the steps above to receive a trade-in value offer. Once accepted you will be informed on how to drop the equipment off to complete the Re-Up transaction. Only once it is inspected will you receive the trade-in credit.
The Re-Up Program is intended to allow you to purchase new gear. Re-Up credit may not be used to purchase used gear. Re-Up credit must be used within 120 days of issuance.
We only accept fly rods and fly reels in our Re-Up program.
We get a high volume of quality rods and reels each week to review, determine a trade-in value and reply with an offer. Please be patient once you have submitted your information. We will work quickly to complete our review and provide an offer.
