Platyspiza crassirostris, Vegetarian Finch. A large finch in the Darwin's finch group. Endemic to the Galápagos Islands. Most likely to be encountered in forest at middle elevations on the larger islands. Not present on the islands of Española, Genovesa and Santa Fé. It feeds primarily on buds, leaves, flowers and fruit, and will strip the bark off twigs to get to the cambium and phloem. It also occasionally eats caterpillars.
