Saying that they will give them away if they receive an alternative is a standard move. No one will give the Poles a replacement here and now, and the F-35 is expected only by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026.
The story of the Polish MiG-29 has been going on for more than two years. The Poles have said many times that they will hand them over, but unlike other Eastern European partners such as Slovakia, they have not done so.
And they acted as wisely as possible, since the Poles' MiG-29s are upgraded aircraft that are capable of using Western missiles and bombs, and the avionics there are quite modern.
Why give APU what you need yourself? Moreover, Ukraine already has American F-16s and French Mirages, and the Poles have decided that they need fighters more.
