Description

THERMAL MASSAGER MASK FOR MIGRAINE RELIEF
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to masks and particularly to an eye mask preventing light from contacting the eyes, and placing therein essential oils or aromatic fluids for these to flow towards the user's nose. Furthermore, it provides for massages on the temple and isolates from noise, thus alleviating the discomfort caused by migraine and it has the possibility of providing heat. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Pain relief has many treatments and very often it is desirable to use natural methods instead of conventional medicine or therapy, especially if these are required to be used for a long period of time due to continuous migraines. Headaches and migraines may be caused or intensified by many factors such as, stress, high noise or strong light changes. Therefore, the use of natural oils or other aromatic fluids that help relieve pain have become part of daily-used natural remedies. In this sense, a mask blocking the contact with light and noise, releasing scents and providing a massage to different parts of the face works as a perfect migraine relief. The use of aromatherapy treatments provides for comfort and relief for the severe pain and stress caused to the body because of migraines. Aromatherapy treatments act by application thereof directly to the skin, or through breathing oils from different plants. These oils are believed to be absorbed through blood vessels inside the nasal cavity and in the lungs. The device described in the present invention uses this principle to release essential oils into the nose, with the purpose of linking the healing properties in the person and pain relief. The device of the present invention is unique, considering it covers different symptoms with a single treatment, such as sensitivity to light, and to noise, by using healing scents and which provides the wearer with a massage on the temple and causes relaxation by means of the heat, thus relieving the pain.
A solution is required that releases essential oils in a way that allows the product to act directly on the required areas, nose and ears, blocking the light and noise, so as not to disturb the person affected thereby. The existing eye masks are not duly suited for pain relief and are mostly directed to aesthetic benefits. Masks can be found in the prior art for different uses. The device disclosed in the document US5343561 , granted to Adamo, is a mask system covering ear cavities providing noise protection. This device is only limited to avoid noise. The device described in the present invention blocks the light in the eyes and provides massages and heat, and avoids noise so as to cause relaxation and calm down the discomfort produced by migraine.
Another device is found in document US14/750,97, presented by Bergman, this being a sleeping mask system consisting of a mask having a gel pad attached thereto and having holes for the eyes being aligned with the cavities in the mask. The main object of said invention is a cosmetic use, whereas the device described in the present invention provides massages in the temple and heat for migraine relief, improving health and reducing pain. Additionally, the document US09/549288, filed by Burkhart, corresponds to a washable face mask having a pocket means for allowing placement of facial contact elements. The device of the present invention for migraine relief does not facilitate cosmetic contact, but it does provide a natural treatment for severe pain, interacting through the sight, smell and skin.
Likewise, another device is found in the document US3354884, granted to Rudo Ann, showing a cosmetic mask device having eye openings cut onto the mask, and being mainly designed for applying pressure to the face in order to reduce skin swelling, and providing moistening by soaking a pad adhered to the inner side of the mask. The device of the present invention provides a natural treatment for pain without applying any type of pressure or humidity to the skin, promoting comfort rather than cosmetic effects.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention refers to an eye mask mitigating migraines through natural therapies such as aromatherapy, heat and massage. Furthermore, it can relax and relieve capillary blood pressure. The device described in the present invention consists of an eye mask having an opening at each upper side of the mask for introducing essential oils or aromatic fluids which will be released into the nose of the person undergoing migraine, including a complete blocking of light and noise and which allows heat transmission and massage on the temple by means of spheres located at a side pocket of the device, thus reducing discomfort.
Said device is made of a soft, comfortable and flexible material which allows skin to breathe, preventing light from contacting the eyes and blocking sounds, providing for a complete environmental isolation of the user that promotes relaxation and calmness. Furthermore, the device can vary the temperature thereof relieving discomfort in the head area.
Thus, a first aspect of the present invention refers to a thermal massaging mask for migraine relief comprising:
o a main body made of a cushioning material configured for totally or partially covering the face and for avoiding eye contact with light and
o an elastic or adjustable string attached to the ends of the main body and configured for keeping said main body onto the user's face in the correct position. wherein the main body comprises:
- at least a tube configured for conducting aromatic fluids and release scents towards the user's nose and
- wings configured for totally or partially covering the ears in such a way that they provide for isolation of environmental noise, wherein said wings comprise inner pockets provided with massage elements.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a main body comprises a heating system configured for transmitting heat. Preferably, the heating system comprises a coated filament configured for connecting to an electric wire and producing heat.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the main body is made of a washable material. More preferably, the material is selected from the following list: silk, cotton and sateen. Still more preferably, the material comprises two layers sewed to each other between which some pads are arranged. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the massage elements are spheres or rounded elements. In general, the massage elements may have different geometric shapes, with a massaging function and with the purpose of enhancing the wearer comfort and contributing to relief of conditions such as migraines.
The mask thus described can be kept in the correct position so that scents flow directly to the user's nose, with ears being covered and in such a way that massages can be provided to the temple area. The aromatic elements placed in the device can be of any type of fluid.
The device likewise allows the temperature to be increased so as to provide heat to the area affected by migraine pain.
These masks can be used comfortably while being standing or laying on any surface or sleeping.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The attached figures represent, with an illustrative and non-limiting purpose, the following:
FIG. 1 : It is a general front view of the preferred embodiment of the mask described in the present invention. FIG. 2: It is a general front view of the preferred embodiment of the inner side of the mask described in the present invention.
FIG. 3: It is a general side view of the preferred embodiment of the inner part of the mask described in the present invention.
FIG. 4: It is a general side view of the preferred embodiment of the mask described in the present invention. PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
The following is a detailed description of the invention based on the attached figures. FIG. 1 shows a general front view of the mask, comprising:
- a main body (1 ), formed by a soft, flexible and washable fabric which allows skin to breathe, but avoids light to contact the eyes, and
- an adjustable string (4) provided with an adjusting element (5) for adapting the string (4) to the size required by the user.
The main body (1 ) includes a wing (3a and 3b) at each side covering the ears, thus isolating noise.
As it is shown in FIG. 1 and 2, the mask includes a set of ear plugs (2a and 2b) and a pair of tubes (6a and 6b), being closed at one end thereof by the plugs (2a and 2b) and having openings at the opposite sides of the plugs where the fluids are released.
FIG. 2 shows in detail the inner part of the main body (1 ). Said body (1 ) comprises a tube (6a) at the right side covered by the corresponding plug (2a) and another tube (6b) at the left side covered by another plug (2b); the aromatic fluids are inserted in the tubes (6a and 6b). The fluids are inserted by the user at the upper part of the mask and they flow through the tubes (6a, 6b). This process shall allow the scents from the fluids to be released near the user's nose through at least one slot or opening (7a, 7b) at each side, resulting in the scent causing relaxation and relieving the migraine pain. FIG. 2 shows, in turn, the wings (3a, 3b) at the sides of the main body (1 ), the adjustable string (4) and the adjusting element (5).
