Description
A V-ARM MECHANISM
DESCRIPTION
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a V-arm mechanism, which enables the lateral forces occurring in the suspension systems produced for the uncontrolled wheel movements of the vehicles due to road surface to be damped by being transmitted to the chassis, and whose degree of freedom is enhanced.
Background of the Invention
Suspension system is a mechanical assembly, which provides cushioning between the main body and the road surface in order to decrease the shocks occurring due to various movements, and which is comprised of elastic members. The field in which suspension is most widely used is motor vehicles. Springs, shock absorbers, carrier brackets and bump stops are used in the suspension assembly. The suspension systems used in vehicles may vary according to the features of the vehicles, different conditions of the front and rear wheels and resistance conditions that may occur. As a result of these variabilities, the suspension mechanism may differ such as helical springs or different leaf spring applications.
The uncontrolled movements produced in the wheels depending on the form of the road surface as a result of movement of the vehicle are transferred to the axle body. While a part of these uncontrolled movements and vibrations are damped in the wheels, a large part of it is transferred to the axle. In the state of the art, the suspension system and the V-arm, which are connected between the axle and the vehicle body, enable to damp the coming forces by converting these uncontrolled movements to limited oscillation movements without compromising ergonomics of the passenger.
The V-arm mechanisms in the state of the art are comprised of two rod extensions that form a V- shape, a bushing mechanism which enables the rods to be connected and mounted to the axle, and bushing mechanisms which are located at the end parts of both of the rods and which enable the end parts of the rods to be connected to the chassis. The undesired lateral forces occurring in the axle area are transmitted to the chassis via the V-arm mechanism. The V-arm can rotate by means of the bushings located on both sides thereof and do not get affected by the upward vertical forces produced on the axle. Although the V-arm mechanisms in the state of the art do not get affected by upward-downward movements, they are weak against the forces acting on the V- arm perpendicularly in the horizontal axis as a result of movement of the axle towards the chassis, and in suspension systems wherein perpendicular forces might act on the V-arm, alternative applications are used instead of V-arm.
Problems Solved by the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide a V-arm mechanism which, by providing connection between the chassis and the axle, resists the forces coming from the axle to the chassis.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a V-arm mechanism which comprises a shackle connection member that can rotate with the perpendicular forces coming from the axle.
A further objective of the present invention is to provide a V-arm mechanism which enhances degree of freedom of the suspension system in which it is provided by means of the shackle connection member.

The V-arm mechanism (1) of the present invention, which resists the lateral forces acting on the suspension systems of the vehicles by transmitting them to the chassis (S), comprises
at least one V-arm (2) which enables to transmit the lateral forces occurring on the vehicle suspension system to the chassis (S),
at least one V-arm bushing (21) which enables the V-arm (2) to be connected to the chassis (S) and to be able to move up and down on the fixed chassis (S),
at least one V-arm chassis rod (22) which allows rotational movement of the V-arm mechanism (1) on the chassis (S) from a specific point upon fitting into the V-arm bushing (21) and which connects the V-arm (2) to the chassis (S),
at least one support member (23) which enables the extensions forming the V-arm (2) to be connected to each other thereby providing support between the said two extensions,
at least one, preferably two V-arm connection joints (24) which are located at the end parts of the extensions forming the V-arm (2) which are connected with the support member (23),
at least one shackle connection member (3), which enables the extensions forming the V-arm (2) be connected at one point, is positioned between the axle (A) and the V-arm (2), and increases degree of freedom of the V-arm (2) in vertical direction by rotating with the perpendicular forces coming from the axle (A),
at least one shackle connection bushing (31) which enables the shackle connection member (3) to be connected to the axle (A) and to rotate relative to the movement of the axle (A),
at least one shackle axle rod (32), which enables the shackle connection member (3) to be connected to the axle (A) and to rotate around an axis, and which is preferably cylindrical,
at least one, preferably two shackle connection joints (33) which connect with the V-arm connection joint (24) thereby enabling the shackle connection member (3) to be connected to the V-arm (2),
at least one connecting rod (4), which passes through the shackle connection joint (33) and the V-arm connection joint (24) thereby enabling the shackle connection member (3) to be connected to the V-arm (2), and which is preferably cylindrical.
The V-arm mechanism (1) of the present invention is a V connection bracket assembly, which enables the lateral and longitudinal forces occurring in the suspension systems produced for the uncontrolled wheel movements of the vehicles due to road surface to be transmitted to the chassis (S), and whose degree of freedom is enhanced by means of a shackle connection member (3) that it comprises. By connection of the V-arm (2) and the shackle connection member (3) by using joints, the perpendicular forces coming from the axle (A) are prevented from directly acting on the V-arm (2) and it is enabled to be used for suspension systems.
The V-arm chassis rod (22) fixed on the chassis (S) passes through the V-arm bushing (21) on the V-arm (2) and enables the V-arm (2) to be fixed to the chassis (S) and to acquire movement capability. The V-arm connection joint (24) located at the other end of the V-arm (2) and the shackle connection joint (33) located on the shackle connection member (3) are brought onto the same axis and they are enabled to rotate around this axis by means of a connecting rod (4). As the shackle axle rod (32) fixed on the axle (A) passes through the shackle connection bushing (31) on the shackle connection member (3), the shackle connection member (3) is enabled to be connected to the axle (A) and to acquire movement capability.
The V-arm (2) carries out damping process by transmitting the lateral forces occurring in the suspension system to the chassis (S) by means of its arms extending in the form of a V. In the V-arm mechanism (1) of the present invention, by means of the shackle connection (3) member placed on the V-arm (2), when perpendicular forces act on the V-arm mechanism (1) it is enabled to rotate and fold to a certain extent and thus not to get affected by these forces.
In the mechanism (1) of the present invention, a support member (23) is used, which provides support for holding together the extensions forming the V-arm (2) and which enables the coming lateral forces to be evenly distributed between the
extensions. The support member (23) is preferably located near the connection points of the rods forming the V shape.
As a result of enhancing movement capabilities of the V-arm (2) and shackle connection member (3) by means of joints, damping efficiency of the suspension systems are enhanced.
