Description
FOLDABLE SEAT WITH A DISPLAY OR LED ON THE UNDERSIDE PORTION
Technical field
[0001] This invention relates to display apparatus which includes a foldable seat.
In particular, the invention relates to display apparatus with a foldable seat for use in a stadium.
Background art
[0002] Various materials such as posters or decals may typically be displayed on seats or chairs for the purposes of advertising. These materials may be temporary or permanent additions to the seats or chairs. If there is a group of seats or chairs involved these materials are then generally applied to each individual seat or chair separately.
[0003] The current invention provides a convenient, easily adaptable and
aesthetically appealing means for displaying images or information on one or more seats such as, for example, on a large number of seats used in a stadium.
Disclosure of the invention
[0004] A first aspect of this invention provides display apparatus, comprising:
- at least one foldable seat;
- the foldable seat being pivotably attachable to a support structure;
- the foldable seat including at least an upper portion and an underside portion;
- the foldable seat being adjustable between an open position and a
folded position; and
- at least one light display means being attachable to the foldable seat, the light display means being visible on at least the underside portion of the foldable seat.
[0005] The light display means is preferably visible when the foldable seat is in its folded position.
[0006] The light display means may comprise at least one light emitting diode.
The light display means may preferably include a plurality of light emitting diodes.
[0007] The foldable seat may further include a backrest. [0008] In one form of the invention there may be a further display means included with the backrest. The backrest may include a front facing portion and a rear facing portion. Preferably, the second display means is beatable on the rear facing portion of the backrest.
[0009] At least one first image may be viewed on the display means.
[0010] In a preferred form of the invention there is a plurality of foldable seats.
[0011] According to one form of the invention the light display means included on the plurality of foldable seats may be used to display one or more complex images.
[0012] Further according to the invention an image displayed on the underside portion of a foldable seat may be representative of a picture element. A plurality of the picture elements may be used to represent a complex image.
[0013] In yet a further form of the invention each light emitting diode of the light display means may represent a picture element. These light emitting diodes may be of the RGB type and/or of the white light type, and thus may be used as white and/or colour light emitting diodes. A plurality of these picture elements may thus be used together to represent various parts of a complex image. This complex image may be displayed across the underside of a plurality of foldable seats.
[0014] Further according to the invention the foldable seat may be a stadium, arena, theatre or cinema seat.
[0015] A second aspect of this invention provides a method of displaying at least one image, the method comprising:
- locating at least one light display means on each of a plurality of
foldable seats, each of the foldable seats having at least an upper portion and an underside portion, and the light display means being visible on at least the underside portion of the foldable seats; and
- displaying an image on the underside of one or more of the foldable seats.
[0016] The light display means may comprise at least one light emitting diode.
The light display means may preferably include a plurality of light emitting diodes. [0017] Further aspects of the invention will be apparent from the following description.

Mode(s) for carrying out the invention
[0018] An embodiment of a display apparatus 10 according to an embodiment of the invention is shown in Figure 1. In Figure 1 the light display apparatus
10 is shown to comprise three foldable seats 12.
[0019] Each of the foldable seats 12 is pivotably attachable to support structure 14.
The support structure 14 includes two arm sections 16 and a pillar 18, the foldable seat 12 being pivotably attached to the arm sections 16. Each of the foldable seats further includes a backrest 20, the backrest 20 also being attached to the support structure 14.
[0020] Each of the foldable seats 12 has an upper portion 22 and an underside portion 24, and is adjustable between an open position A and a folded position B. A light display means 26 is attachable to and preferably beatable in the foldable seat 12, and it is visible on at least the underside portion 24 of the foldable seat 12. The display means 26 is thus visible when the foldable seat 12 is in its folded position B.
[0021] The light display means 26 is shown to include a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) 28 located in the foldable seat 12. The LEDs 28 are preferably the white and/or RGB type. These LEDs 28 included in a plurality of foldable seats 12 may be used to display one or more complex images. It is envisaged that the foldable seats 12 are located in a stadium, arena, theatre or cinema, and the images shown by means of the display means 26 may be, for example, advertising, promotional or sport team related images.
[0022] It will be understood that the light display means 26 is illuminated with a form of visible light. It will further be understood that the light display means 26 may also comprise other means of illumination, such as, for example, fluorescent or incandescent light.
[0023] Figure 6 shows the LEDs 28 of the display apparatus 12 as being located on the inner framework of the seats 12. The individual LEDs 28 may be visible from the underside portion 24 through a transparent material, as shown in Figures 1 , 3 and 4, or the underside portion 24 might be covered by a translucent material which allows diffused light to be emitted and through which the individual LEDs 28 cannot be distinguished, as shown in Figure 7.
[0024] In certain examples an image displayed on the underside portion 24 of a foldable seat 12 may be representative of a picture element. A plurality of these picture elements may be used to represent a complex image.
[0025] In certain embodiments of the invention each LED 28 of the display means 26 may represent a picture element. As these LEDs 28 may be of the RGB type or white type and thus may be used as white or colour light emitting diodes. A plurality of these picture elements may thus be used together to represent various parts of a complex image. This complex image may be displayed across the underside portion 24 of a plurality of foldable seats 12. [0026] In certain instances each of these picture elements may be used to make up a colour image made out of a white light LED or an LED having one red, one blue, and one green sub-element, and these three colours are adjusted individually to create the combined effect of a single colour or white light for that particular LED. In other instances individually coloured LEDs may be used to make up a colour image.
[0027] In this way each underside portion 24 may include different parts of an image and these different parts of the image displayed on a plurality of foldable seats 12 may make up a complex image. In another form of the invention, each part of a complex image may be represented by a single image displayed on the underside portion 24 of a plurality of foldable seats 12.
[0028] A further second display means 30 is included with the backrest 20. Each backrest 20 includes a front facing portion 32 and a rear facing portion 34. The second display means 30 is beatable on the rear facing portion 34 of the backrest 20, as shown in Figure 5 and 8. Display means 30 may be used for a rear facing advertisement or it may be used as a reading or guiding light.
[0029] Additionally, the light from the LEDs 28 in the foldable seats 12 may also be visible from the sides 36 of the seats. This emitted light from the sides, combined with the light emitting from underside portion 24 when the foldable seats are in the open position A, may also serve as guiding lights for users of the foldable seats 12 when they are used at night or in low ambient light conditions.

Claims

Claims
1. Display apparatus, comprising:
- at least one foldable seat;
- the foldable seat being pivotably attachable to a support structure;
- the foldable seat including at least an upper portion and an underside portion;
- the foldable seat being adjustable between an open position and a folded position; and
- at least one light display means being attachable to the foldable seat, the light display means being visible on at least the underside portion of the foldable seat.
2. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the light display means is visible when the foldable seat is in its folded position.
3. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the light display means comprises at least one light emitting diode.
4. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 3, wherein the light display means
includes a plurality of light emitting diodes.
5. Display apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
foldable seat further includes a backrest.
6. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 5, wherein there is a further display means included with the backrest.
7. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 5 or 6, wherein the backrest includes a front facing portion and a rear facing portion.
8. Display apparatus as claimed in any of claims 5, 6 or 7, wherein the second display means is beatable on the rear facing portion of the backrest.
9. Display apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein at least one first image is viewed on the light display means.
10. Display apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, which comprises a plurality of foldable seats.
11. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein the light display means included on the plurality of foldable seats are used to display one or more complex images.
12. Display apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein an image displayed on the underside portion of a foldable seat is representative of a picture element.
13. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 12, wherein a plurality of the picture elements is used to represent a complex image.
14. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 12 or 13, wherein each light emitting diode of the display means represents a picture element.
15. Display apparatus as claimed in any of claims 3 to 14, wherein the light
emitting diodes are of the RGB type and/or of the white light type, and are used as white and/or colour light emitting diodes.
16. Display apparatus as claimed in claim 12, wherein a plurality of the picture elements are used together to represent various parts of a complex image.
17. Display apparatus as claimed in any of claims 12 to 15, wherein the complex image is displayed across the underside of a plurality of foldable seats.
18. Display apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
foldable seat is a stadium, arena, theatre or cinema seat.
19. A method of displaying at least one image, the method comprising:
locating at least one light display means on each of a plurality of foldable seats, each of the foldable seats having at least an upper portion and an underside portion, the light display means being visible on at least the underside portion of the foldable seats, the foldable seat being adjustable between an open position and a folded position; and - displaying an image on the underside of one or more of the foldable seats.
20. A method as claimed in claim 19, wherein the light display means comprises at least one light emitting diode.
21. A method as claimed in claims 19 or 20, wherein the light display means
includes a plurality of light emitting diodes.
