Abstract

A method and apparatus for recognizing a tag capable of reducing consumption power and heat generation of a board when a reader recognizes the tag in a radio frequency identification (RFID) system. The apparatus for recognizing the tag includes: a RF transmission/reception unit for performing wireless data communication with the tag; a power unit for providing predetermined power; a power supply controller for supplying or blocking a power to the RF transmission/reception unit based on a power control signal; and a controller for setting a standby state and a continuous state of the transmission/reception unit, outputting the power control signal according to the state, transmitting a tag search signal by a predetermined period in the standby state, converting a state to the continuous state when the response is received from the tag, and maintaining the standby state when the response is not received from the tag.
