Description
"DEVICE AND METHOD FOR TRACING EYEBROWS"
The present invention relates to a device and method for tracing the eyebrows of a person. Presently, the profile of the eyebrows is traced according to three different modes.
In the best mode, the profile is traced according to the rules used in the beauty field for the location of the three main points of the eyebrow (starting point, maximum height and end) by means of a thin flexible stick or a ruler; in the worst mode, on the contrary, the profile is traced by sight, i.e. by locating by sight the three main points without taking into account the above-mentioned rules but just one's own taste, or the taste dictated by the present fashion or that of the person on which the eyebrows are being traced. Finally, it is possible to use stencils called "brow stencils" in that, in each of them, there are cut different eyebrow shapes to be used depending on the type of face.
These operating modes were the starting point for the creation of a device that allows to trace the correct eyebrow profile of a person quickly and precisely by following some simple rules, thus preventing the user from making errors.
By correct eyebrow profile it is meant the profile that in shape and size makes the person on which it is traced look more enjoyable to the sight by respecting the proportions and expression of the face. In fact, the correct eyebrow profile traced by means of the present device in creating a balanced and harmonious situation between the various elements of the face (nose, mouth, eyes, jaw, cheekbones, cheeks, front, chin) and its contour, objectively makes the person on which it is traced prettier to the sight. This allows to understand the great value and importance that the eyebrows have in a face. It is also pointed out that the present invention was devised by taking into account both the rules used in the beauty field for the location of the three main points of the eyebrow and Euclidean geometry, and precisely the fundamental geometrical entities (point, line and plane) and the first Euclidean postulate.
In fact, each of the three bars that make up the device corresponds to a line that belongs to a plane and is defined by two points only.
The device according to the present invention will be clear to those skilled in the
art from the following detailed description of an embodiment thereof, with reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
Fig.l is a front view of the device in the open condition;
Fig.2 is a front view of the device in the closed condition; Fig.3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken along line HI-III of Fig.2; and
Figs.4 to 6 are diagrammatic views showing the use of said device for performing the present method.
The device is preferably entirely made of transparent polycarbonate resin since this material allows to comply with the safety standards required for its use and is comfortable for the user (smooth, flexible and not cold to touch). The use of this material does not exclude the possibility of making the device of other types of material that while retaining the required safety standards yet could have a lower cost.
As shown in Figs.1-3, the device is made up of three bars respectively indicated by references A, B and C rotatably connected through frictioned hinges F. For the sake of safety in using the device, each bar is made with rounded tips and edges and the hinges are level with the sides of the bars or have rounded ends.
More specifically, the first vertical bar A is provided at its bottom end with an ergonomic handle H that is substantially heart-shaped, and the frictioned hinges F connect thereto the other two bars C and B respectively at the top portion thereof and at the bottom portion thereof just above handle H (see open front view in Fig.l). The frictioned hinges F preferably consist of a stainless steel rivet whose rotation is frictioned by a polycarbonate washer.
In the illustrated example, the top bar C is hinged behind the vertical bar A, i.e. on the rear side thereof, and the bottom bar B is hinged before the vertical bar A, i.e. on the front side thereof, but it is clear that the arrangement of the two bars B and C could be reversed being only necessary that they are hinged on opposite sides of the vertical bar A. Furthermore, for the sake of simplicity and cost the three bars have the same thickness, width and length, as clearly shown in figures 2 and 3, yet it would be possible to make the bars different in thickness and/or width and/or length. As explained hereafter, the vertical bar A is used to locate the eyebrow starting point or root, the bottom bar B is used to locate the eyebrow ending point or tail and the
top bar C is used to locate the eyebrow highest point. To help the user in identifying the edge of the bar to which reference must be made in locating the above-mentioned three main points that define the eyebrow, on each bar the external edge (i.e. the edge facing away from the eye when the device is in use) is preferably provided with a marking M such as a colored spot, a notch or the like (see Fig.1).
With reference to Figs.4-6, there is now illustrated the simple 3-step method according to the present invention that allows to locate the three main points of the eyebrow by means of the above -illustrated device. The following description relates to the tracing of the left eyebrow, yet it is obvious that it also applies to the right eyebrow merely by reversing the device through a 180° rotation around the longitudinal axis of bar A. Furthermore, it is clear that the sequence of the steps is just exemplificative, since they can be performed in any order.
In the first step, illustrated in Fig.4, the device is held by handle H and placed on the person's face such that the top of handle H rests against the bottom of the nose and bar A passes vertically with its marked edge through the internal corner of the eye (bars B and C are omitted for the sake of clarity of the figure). The point where the external marked edge of bar A crosses the natural eyebrow of the person is the location of the starting point or root.
In the second step, illustrated in Fig.5, without moving the device the bottom bar B is rotated until its marked edge is aligned with the external corner of the eye (bar C is omitted for the sake of clarity of the figure). The point where the external marked edge of bar B crosses the natural eyebrow of the person is the location of the ending point or tail.
In the third step, illustrated in Fig.6, the device is shifted vertically downwards until the top hinge F coincides with the hairline of the person and then the top bar C is rotated until its marked edge is aligned with the bottom junction between the ear and the head (bar B is omitted for the sake of clarity of the figure). The point where the external marked edge of bar C crosses the natural eyebrow of the person is the location of the point of maximum height of the eyebrow. It is clear that the above-described and illustrated embodiment of the device according to the invention is just an example susceptible of various modifications. In
- A -
particular, the shape of handle H could be different as long as it is suitable for the proper positioning of the device at the base of the person's nose and hinges F need not necessarily be at the ends of bars B and C.
