Abstract
[PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED] A conventional lateral direction particle movement type display device has difficulties with transmittance, contrast, driving voltage and response speed at the light state. [MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEMS] A display device is provided with a pair of substrates that hold a dispersion system where fine particles are dispersed to form cells. A fine particle dispersion state in the cells in the vertical direction with respect to the substrates is set to an optically shielding state. The display device is characterized in such a structure that the fine particles are deposited (1) on both upper and lower surface sides of a net-like driving electrode or (2) on both side surfaces of a major surface of a plate-like driving electrode provided vertically on the substrate. This display device enables high transmittance, high contrast and low voltage driving monochrome and color displays to be reduced in thickness, light in weight, and high in speed, so that it can be applied to a variety of products such as a super high resolution optical modulation device, a portable equipment display, high image quality electronic paper, a large size monitor, a large size TV set, an ultra large size public display
