Abstract
A video signal recording device for recording a television broadcast containing programs which provide various topics such as news programs and information programs. The device enables video recording such that the point of a topic change is detected only from the input video signal and a chapter division point can be obtained. A region dividing section (5) divides the image of the input video signal into regions. A feature extracting section (6) determines a statistical quantity of the pixel values of each divided region to acquire the feature vector of the image. A judging section (7b) compares the feature vector of each of the central region, the other regions, and the whole regions of the current image outputted from the feature extracting section (6) with the feature vector of the corresponding region of a past image outputted from a memory (8) to judge whether or not the current and past images belong to the same chapter. A chapter start point recording section (9) records information representing the position of the image judged not to belong to the same chapter as the past image.
