Description
A container closure with a tamper indicating element
The present invention refers to a new container closure seal, and the invention refers particularly to a closure seal to be used in connection with containers having lids and lid covers and in connection with caps for vials/bottles, in order to clearly evidence the occurrence of tampering.
The closure seals for containers using lids and lid covers have been known for a long while, and there are seals of the most varied kinds. However, there has been noted to exist a need to provide a new container closure seal for lid and lid cover type closures and for caps on vials and/or similar arrangements, that should be easily manufactured and provide clear evidence of any tampering therewith. This system helps to conserve the environment, as the lid, the lid cover and the closure seal are generally molded from the same material, facilitating the recycling thereof, and the fact that the seal remains attached to the lid prevents additional soiling of the environment. The container closure seal that constitutes the object of the present invention is applicable to any type of container that has a lid and a lid cover, as well as to any container that is comprised of a cap and vial assembly, a cap and pot assembly or a cap and squeeze-type tube assembly, such as for example in the case of containers where the lid and the lid cover are of the snap- on or screw-on type.
The container closure seal according to the present invention is primarily intended for use with containers having a lid and a lid cover, as well as to any container that is comprised of a cap and vial assembly, a cap and pot assembly or a cap and squeeze-type tube assembly, and comprises: a stem comprised of a first segment and a second segment, provided contiguously to one another, joined at a frangible weakened zone, the stem being secured, by means of one end of the first segment thereof, to a side surface of the lid cover or a side surface of the lid or to a side surface of the cap or of the vial/bottle, pot or squeeze tube, with the opposite end thereof, which is
also the end of the second segment, remaining free, with the second segment being provided, between the free end thereof and the frangible weakened zone whereby it is joined to the first segment, with an extension kept apart by two stops; and, a gripping device fixed to a side surface of the lid or of the lid cover or to a side surface of the bottle or of the cap, to fixedly secure the extension kept apart by two stops of the second stem segment, when the same is engaged in the gripping device.
In an alternative embodiment a stem with an extension separated by two stops is fixed to the side of the lid cover by a frangible weakened zone; and, the gripping device is fixed to a side surface of the lid or to a side surface of the bottle, so as to fixedly secure the extension or stem, separated by two stops, when the same is engaged in the gripping device (2).
Within the scope of the present invention, "fixed" means secured, glued, molded, that is: preferably the stem of the closure seal is molded together with the lid cover or the lid or together with the vial/bottle, pot or squeeze tube; and the gripping device is molded together with the lid or the lid cover or together with the bottle, pot or squeeze tube.
In a preferred embodiment, the stem is fixed or molded perpendicularly to/with a side surface of the lid cover or of the lid or to/with a side surface of the cap or of the vial/bottle, pot or squeeze tube, and may further be fixed or molded with any inclination in relation to such side surface. Both the stem and the gripping device may be molded with colors different from those of the container. An embodiment of the new closure seal for containers that constitutes the object of the present invention is illustrated in the figures of the attached drawing, wherein:
Figures 1 and IA show a perspective view depicting a container
(in this case the lid is separated from the container) with a lid and a lid cover,
with the lid cover in the open position, prior to the first closing operation, with the closure seal according to the present invention not yet sealed;
Figures 2 and 2 A shown the same container of Figures 1 and IA, after the first closing operation, already with the lid cover mounted thereon, showing the closure seal according to the present invention already sealed, that is, with the "stem" of the lid cover already engaged in the gripping device provided in the lid;
Figures 3 and 3 A show the same container of Figures 1 and IA after being opened for the first time; Figure 4 shows the lid in the closed position, with the closure seal according to the present invention already ruptured and with a part of the stem raised, evidencing on the lid cover the occurrence of rupture in the weakened zone; and,
Figure 4A shows the lid in the closed position, with the closure seal according to the present invention already ruptured and with the stem/extension fallen, separated by two stops , evidencing the occurrence of rupture in the weakened zone; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the closure seal in a cap and vial type container. There will now be provided a description relative to Figures 1 to
4, where the closure seal according to the present invention is applied to a lid 4 and a lid cover 3, with the closure seal being basically comprised of a stem 1 and a gripping device 2.
As may be noted in Figure 1, the stem 1 was perpendicularly molded at one of the ends thereof to a side surface of the lid cover 3. The stem 1 is comprised of two segments Ia and Ib, provided contiguous to one another, that are joined at a frangible weakened zone Ic. Segment Ib of stem 1 is provided, between the free end thereof and the frangible weakened zone Ic whereby it is joined to the other segment Ia of the stem, with an extension kept
apart by two stops. The gripping device 2 was molded on a side surface of the lid 4.
As may be noted in Figure IA, the stem 1 was perpendicularly molded at one of the ends thereof to a side surface of the lid cover 3. The stem 1 is comprised of a stem 1 with an extension separated by two stops Ib and a weakened zone Ic. The gripping device 2 was molded on a side surface of the lid 4.
In Figure 2 there is illustrated the situation after the first closing of the lid cover 3 over the lid 4, with the extension kept apart by two stops of segment Ib of the stem 1 being properly engaged and fixedly secured in the gripping device 2.
In Figure 3 there is illustrated the situation after the first opening, showing the weakened zone of the stem already ruptured, with the extension kept apart by two stops of segment Ib secured in the gripping device 2 and with the other segment Ia, secured at the end thereof on the lid cover 3, in a raised position.
In Figure 3A there is illustrated the situation after the first opening, showing the weakened zone of the stem already ruptured, with the extension kept apart by two stops of segment Ib secured in the gripping device 2 in the fallen position.
In Figure 4 there is illustrated the situation in the closed position, where the lid cover 3 is closed over the lid 4, with the closure seal of the present invention already ruptured, evidencing on the lid cover 3 the rupture at the weakened zone, leaving segment Ia of the stem perpendicular to the lid cover 3 and segment Ib of the stem secured in the gripping device 2 in the lid 4.
In Figure 4A there is illustrated the situation in the closed position, where the lid cover 3 is closed over the lid 4, with the closure seal of the present invention already ruptured, evidencing on the lid 4 the rupture at the weakened zone, leaving the stem Ib in the fallen position secured in the gripping
device 2 in the lid 4.
In Figure 5 there is illustrated an embodiment of the closure seal Ia, Ib, Ic, 2 in a container of the type that comprises a cap 4 and a vial 5.
Although the stem 1 has been illustrated in the form of a bar, the same may assume other shapes, such as cylindrical, hexagonal, trapezoidal, triangular, wedge-shaped, etc...
The closure seal is preferably made of a plastic material.
