Abstract
Lightweight mortar for covering floors and walls. It is prepared using pumice 0- 3 mm 67%w/w, white or gray Portland cement CEM I 52,5 N 26 % w/w, hydrate lime 5% w/w, sodium gluconate 0,02 w/w, bentonite l,48w/w, methyl hydroxy ethyl cellulose 0,3% w/w and polycarboxylated polymer 0,2 % w/w. It may be used without any difference as a basic coat plaster but also as a floor covering mortar. Provides the advantage of reducing the total plaster weight by 45% approximately while at the same time provides thermal insulation, sound insulation and fire resistance.
Description
LIGHTWEIGHT MORTAR FOR FLOORS AND WALLS
This invention presents the manufacture of a lightweight mortar used to cover walls or floors at the construction site.
Several types of lightweight mortars for buildings are known and have already been 5. used for many years. Their usual formulation based on calcium carbonate or limestone sand, pumice, perlite, cement, lime and other aggregates, increases the weight of the structure, are not easy to apply and the same mortar can not be used for both floors and walls. 0 The advantage of this invention is that this mortar reduces the weight of the structure up to 45%^ (compared to common mortars) and at the same time provides thermal insulation, sound insulation and fire resistance. It is also very easy to use and the same lightweight mortar can be used for covering floors and walls. This advantage is very important because its manufacture does not require separate raw 5 materials, equipment and storage facilities given the fact that floor and wall covering require two different products.
This type of lightweight mortar can be produced according to the following formula: 0 1. White or gray Portland cement CEM I 52,5 N 26 % w/w.
2. Pumice 0-3 mm 67 % w/w
3. Hydrated lime 5 % w/w
4. Sodium Gluconate 0,02 % w/w
5. Bentonite 1,48 % w/w. 5 6. Methyl hydroxy ethyl cellulose 0,3 % w/w
7. Polycarboxylated Polymer 0,2 % w/w
The raw materials mentioned above are in powder form. For the homogenization of the dry mixture any kind of mixer may be used while mixing time varies between A- 0 12 minutes depending on the type of the mixer. After the homogenization the lightweight mortar is ready to use. Water is added at a ratio: lightweight mortar/water =6/1. The mixture has a workability of about 2,5 hours at 2O0C. Open time reduces when temperature increases The characterization CEM I 52,5 N for the Portland cement, indicates the type of the 5 cement according to DIN 1164/1994 standard
This lightweight mortar can be used as a basic coat plaster in construction sites and also for covering floors at a thickness of 2- 10mm.
