Abstract

The system and method according to the invention for measuring the level of a liquid in a container, more particularly the fuel tank (2) in a motor vehicle, has an oscillator (6, 10, 13) and an oscillation sensor (11). According to the invention the frequency of the oscillator (10) can be controlled, and the oscillator (10) and the oscillation sensor (11) operate in a frequency range that includes body or air resonance frequencies of the container and/or system or parts thereof for the possible levels of liquid in the container.
