Abstract

An isolated DNA molecule is provided whereby it is overexpressed in stressed microspores and it comprises a sequence selected from the group consisting of a)a sequence A with SEQ. ID. No. 1, b)a sequence B with at least 90% identity to the above sequence A, c)a sequence C which hybridises with the above sequence A under stringent conditions and d)a sequence D which is complementary to any one of sequences A, B and C, said DNA molecule which when overexpressed in a plant causes male sterility.
