- the present invention concerns a drilling deck/moonpool door for a vessel performing drilling or subsea operations, where the drilling deck/moonpool door may be opened to give access to the "moonpool"-opening or the sea surface when lowering equipment in connection with drilling tasks.
- the solution according to the present invention is equip ⁇ ping the drilling deck/moonpool hatch with a slidable middle part of the deck where this part is guided by hydra ⁇ ulically, mechanically or pneumatically operated carrying arms, said arms ranging an area which at least corresponds in height to the thickness of the middle section of the deck so that this part of the deck, when operated by the arms, is elevated to the extent that it clears the sur ⁇ rounding deck surface and consequently may be pushed or pressed away from its resting position in the middle area of the deck.

This is because the weight of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch's movable parts normally will be so heavy that it will require as ⁇ sisting devices to transport this or parts thereof.

- These flaps 6,6',7,7'8,8' are divided into categories, where the peripheral flaps 6, 6 ',7, 7' are carried by the central part 1 of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch via e.g. a groove 9,9' running along the longitudinal edges of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch.
- flaps 6, 6 ',7, 7' may, in the embodiment shown in the figures, be freely lifted and do not have as their task to carry the construction of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch.
- the middle flaps 8,8' are, however, carried by bracing devices which may be pneumatically, hydraulically or mechanically guided.

- Fig. 4b shows the corner flaps 6, 6 ',7, 7' raised to an angle of 90° with respect to the main deck/upper deck.

- the raising of the non-carrying flaps 6, 6 '7,7' may be done in a conventional manner.
- the carrying mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic devices are activated for elevating the middle section 1,2 of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch via the middle flaps 8,8' of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch so that it clears the main deck of the vessel (see fig. 4c).
- the sliding coupling of the middle flaps 8,8' to the middle section 2 of the dril ⁇ ling deck/moonpool hatch may be ensured by a cooperating groove (tongue and groove) in the flaps and the middle 5 section.
- this one part 2 of the middle section of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch may be removed, as shown in fig. 4c. -U
- this part 1 of the middle section may be pulled away via transport on the rails 3.
- the rails may also be equipped with transporting 15 trolleys, rollers or bearings which ease the movement of the middle section 1 of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch.
- the groove 9 in the middle section 2 may also be equipped with sliding bearings at the transition area to the carrying middle flaps 8.8' or vice versa.
- the middle flaps 8,8' When the carrying middle section of the drilling deck has been removed, the middle flaps 8,8' may be moved from their intermediary position (shown in fig. 4d and 5b) to their upright position (shown in fig. 4e and 5c).

- this impingement point is shown as a coupling between the impingement elements 12,12' and a protruding plate 13,13' being located between the upper and lower external surface of the drilling deck/moonpool hatch 1.
- the location of these protruding plates (elevating plates) is such that the extension of the hydraulic cy ⁇ linders 11,11' via the impingement bodies 12,12' will elevate the drilling deck/moonpool hatch 1,2 up to the level of the guiding rails 3 on the main deck of the vessel so that the drilling deck/moonpool hatch clears this main deck in its upper elevated position.
- Fig. 5a shows the situation with a closed drilling deck/moonpool hatch.
- An advantageous and preferred feature in the design of the carrying flaps 8,8' is to equip them with a hinged part 14,14' in an area at the impingement bodies 12,12' which may flip the distal part of the flaps 8,8* over so that they lie at an angle with respect to the surface of the flaps (shown in fig. 5c).
