GEORGE V. LYON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR AN UPRIGHT PiANO HAVING SUPPLEMENTAL TOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,302, dated September 10, 1889.
Application tiled August 3, 1889- Serial No. 319,691. Term of patent 7 years.
To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE Vt. LYON, a citi zen of the United States, residingat Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Supplemental Top for Upright Pianos, of which the following is a specificatiou, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, and which represents a perspective view of an upright piano embodying my design.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the body of an upright piauo,aud B its usual top or cover.
Upon the rear portion of the top or cover B, I place a supplemental top C, which consists of a back a, sides Z) Z), and top 0. The front surface of the back a is provided with ornamental panels, as shown. The end I) has an oval opening, and its end is provided with an ornamental post, as shown. The end I) is constructed in the form of a cabinet, and which may be utilized for the purpose of holding sheet-music, the front or door of which is ornamented with a panel corresponding with the panels in the back a. The cover 0 rests upon and covers the ends h I), the front edge of which is made to represent a moldiug,and is cutaway, rounding backward in an irregular form from the points 6 c, and is provided. with a semicircular notch (Z, to receive and hold an ornamentsuch as a statuetteplaced upon the top 13 of the instrument, the said supplemental cover add iug beauty to the instrument and givin pleasure in its contemplation.
Having thus described my invention, I claim The design for supplemental top for upright pianos, substantially as shown and described.
