Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL L, REDWINE, OF TOLEDO, OHIO;
DRAWER-GUIDE.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL L. REDWINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Guides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements inldrawer guides and more particularly to anti-friction rollers for drawers and my object is to provide suitable rollers over which the drawer of a dresser or similar article of furniture is adapted to pass when being introduced into or removed from position.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, Figure l is a transverse sectional view showing the 'rollers incorporated into a piece of furniture. Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing the rollers adjusted in place and ready to be secured in connection with a piece of furniture. F ig. 3 is a transverse sectional View taken on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, l is a bed plate preferably rectangular in shape and may be constructed of metal, wood or any desired material, while extending longitudinally along the upper face of said bed plate is a beading 2, said beading acting as a guide-way for a drawer 3 or the like which is designed to pass in or out over a series of rollers 4;, 5 and 6 secured in a housing or channel 7, which extends parallel and adjacent to the beading 2. The end walls of the housing 7 are preferably beveled and thus restupon beveled portions cut in the bed plate in order that the inward or outward movement of the drawer will not cause the housing 7 to be displaced. Extending transversely through the walls of the housing 7 and also centrally through each of the rollers 4, 5 and G, thence into the bed plate l, are pins 8, said pins being adapted to form Specification of Letters Patent.

bearings for the rollers and also to secure the housing to the bed late.
The purpose of lliaving three rollers located in the housing, one in front, one in the middle and one in the back, is to provide for an even motion of the drawer as it is moved inwardly or outwardly, thereby guarding against any sagging which might take place. Since the rollers project for a 'small part above the walls of the housing,
it is advisable that the portion of the drawer resting on said rollers be cut away sufficiently to receive said rollers.
It will be seen that the herein described device provides a means for causing drawers or t-he like to move noiselessly and smoothly in or out of their ordinary places and it also does away with binding and sagging which is so prevalent, especially where articles of weight are placed in said drawers. It will also be seen that I have provided a simple inexpensive article which may be incorporated into house-hold or oi'ice furniture with very little additional expense.
7 hat I claim is:
l. A device of the character described, comprising a frame, a drawer adapted to slide in said frame, said frame having a bed plate, a beading extending the length of said bed plate as a guide for said drawer, a housing carried by said bed plate adjacent said beading and a plurality of rollers mounted in said housing for effecting the easy movement of said drawer substantially as described.
2. In an article of furniture provided with a drawer, a bed plate, a beading extending longitudinally along the upper face of said bed plate and adapted to act as a guiding means for said drawer, a housing extending parallel with and adjacent to said beading, a plurality of pins extending transversely through said housing and into said bed plate and a corresponding number of rollers carried by said pins and adapted to rotate thereon, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
