ETE S SAM ALLEN, OF OKMULGEE, OKLAHOMA.
CONCRETE-BLOCK-MAKING MACHINERY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1910.
Application filed September 11, 1909. Serial No. 517,319.
T o all whom t may concern;
Be it known that I, SAM ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Okmulgee, Okmulgee county, State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete-Block-lvfaking Machinery, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to concrete block molding machines and is designed to construct a machine wherein a rotary table is used, said rotary table being automatically stopped at predetermined intervals while the concrete in one of the molds is tamped.
It also contemplates the provision of means whereby the core of the mold adjacent to the one being tamped may be removed while the former operation is in progress.
A further object of this invention is to supply a means of readily removing the cores and of locking the removing means.
lith the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Y
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a machine constructed in accordance with the present invention partly in section; Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof, a portion of the same being broken away.
Reference being had to the drawings indicates a plurality of I-beams embedded in concrete supporting thebase frame 19 of the machine. A vertical upright frame C is carried approximately centrally at one extremity of the base frame and supplies a means of supporting the drive gears and a portion of the vertical shafts. At the upper extremity of the vert-ical frame C is the horizontal support B, said support being approximately U- haped and adapted to form a housing for the upper ends of the vertical shaft. The outer portion of this horizontal bar B is supported by the brace 4: interposed between the terminal of the bar B and the vertical frame C. To the rear of the frame C extends the vertical bar N provided with a pillar block at its upper extremity in which rotates the shaft L operating between the vertical brace and the frame C, said shaft carrying the large and small gears F and G. A shaft E is mounted in the frame C above the shaft L and is provided at one extremity with the large gear D adapted to mesh with to the disk 7. From the small gear G carried by the shaft L, and at the other extremity with the disk 7. The entire train of gears is driven by the shaft M operated by a belt over the pulley J and operating a small gear O meshing with the large gear F of the shaft L.
A vertical shaft H is mounted at its lower extremity in the step bearing and box 18 and 20. The upper extremity of the shaft is secured in the slidable mounting l in such a manner that the shafts may be swung outwardly about its lower bearing as an axis. The shaft H carries the rotatable table 12 upon which are secured the molds 11, said molds being rigidly carried by said table.
In order to supply a means whereby the shaft H may be tilted outwardly a rod 25 operates vertically in one side of the frame C and is reciprocated therein by the lever 27. To a collar mounted on this rod are pivotally connected a pair of auxiliary levers, one of said auxiliary levers being rigidly connected to the rear terminal of the frame B while the remaining lever is pivotally connected to the reciprocating rod 26, said rod being retained on the frame B by a plurality of collars. The outer terminal of the rod 26 is curved u wardly and operates against the bearing 1 o the upper terminal of the bar B. spring operates between the bar B and the collar on the rod 25 and normally retains the auxiliary levers from said bar, but upon lowering the rod against the pressure of said spring, the lever 26 is forced outwardly by the auxiliary lever secured thereto and as a result tilts the shaft outwardly about the lower mounting as an axis.
The table 12 is provided about the periphery thereof with a plurality of lugs 13, said lugs adapted to coperate with a projecting lever or bar operated by the lever 28 carried by the frame C. Each of these lugs are located centrally with respect to a mold, and consequently, necessarily stops the table from rotation in such a manner that the mold adjacent thereto is located directly under the tamping mechanism.
The tamping mechanism comprises the shaft 8 operating in the brackets 3 and 9 secured to the frame C. A cross head 5 is rigidly secured adjacent the upper extremity of the shaft and between the brackets 3 and 9, to which is connected the pitman 6, -the opposite end of said pitman being connected this construction it will readily be seen vthat upon rota'ti'n the train of gears heretofore described the s aft 8 will be reciprocated vertically and the tamp 10 be driven into the mold.
The base of the mold is provided with an opening which extends entirely through the table into which the core 31 is injected. A plate 32 surrounds the core and is removable from' the mold in such a manner that the same carries the block molded therein with it.
The core is attached to a rod 17, the lower terminal of which is bent outwardly, said rod operating in the frame 14 and adapted to withdraw the core from the mold upon the lower reciprocation thereof.
A bar 16 is secured to the rod and has interposed between each extremity thereof and the base of the table, a spring 15 which is adapted to project the core within the mold.
In order to remove the core from the mold, a lever 22 is pivoted to one of the I-beams and is curved outwardly at its outer ex tremity in such a manner that when the contents of one mold are being tamped the terminal of said lever coperates with the outwardly bent portion of the rod 17 of the next adjacent core. This lever is provided with a treadle 21, and by exerting power on said treadle, the rod 17 is forced downwardly and against the pressure of the spring 15 and withdraws the core from the mold, allowing the block formed in the mold to be removed. An auxiliary lever 24 is secured adjacentkto the base of the table and is vconnected to the lever 22 by a spring, said lever being adapted to aid in removing the core.
A lever l29 is pivoted to the frame and is adapted to coperate with the levers 22 and 24` in such a manner that said levers are locked until the next mold is in position for the core to be removed when the pin 30 lcai'- ri'ed by the table comes in contact with the upper terminal of the lever 29 and releases the levers -22 and 24 allowing the same to y operate. The lever 29 is operated by a spring interposed between the same and the vertical frame C.
The operation is as follows Assuming that thecontents of the mold 11 located under the tamp 10 have been completely tamped, the j lever 27 is operated causing the shaft H to swing outwardly as heretofore described and release the lugs 13 which will permit the table to rotate until the next lug comes in contact with the projection operated by the When this occurs, the iinishedg mold lis located adjacent to the terminals of the levers 22 and 24 when the same 4are rel lever 28.
leased by the pin 30. Thus, by applying.I foot power the core is withdrawn from the mold and the finished block may be readily removed. When the next mold is released as heretofore described, 'the springs will re-` turnthe core to the mold and new concrete maybe placed therein previous to tamping.
