Description

. tanda gaat @anni @lima CHARLES HEDGES AND CHARLES S. STRAYER, 0F VBLOOMING'ION, ILLINOIS. t
` Letters Patent No. 96,696, dated November 9, 1869.
IMPRO'VED WASHING-MACHINE- The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it 'may concern Beit known that wermnnns Hnnens and CHARLES S. STBAYER, of Bloomington, in tlie county of McLean, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in RotaryVVashing-Machines; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
rlhe nature of our invention consists in the construction and` arrangement ofthe revolving cylinder of a rotary washing-machine, said cylinder heilig formed of a series of inside and outside buckets.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains, to make and use the same, we will now proceed to ,describe its construction and operf ation,` referring t0 the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sideview, part in section, of a washhoiler, without' cylinder, and n Figure 2 is an inside view of a'portion ofthe cylin der.
A represents a wash-boiler, of any dimensions de-v at the outside, and point inward, the inner edges Vbeing perforated, so as to allow the water to pass down ward on to the clothes.
Between the buckets C C, inside of the cylinder B, are placed zigzag buckets, D D, which separate the clothes, and carry the water to the top of' the clothes,
Where it is thrown upon them.
, The cylinder B, thus formed, is provided with a lid, hinged and fastened in any suitable manner, to the body of the cylinder.
The clothes are placed within 'the cylinder B, and the cylinder revolved by ineansof the crank E, which 'passes through the boiler into one ofl the journals b,
and so arranged that the cvlinder may be revolved in either direction. l
Having thus fully described our invention,
What we claim as new, and desire to secure bv Letters Patent, is I 1.' The cylinder B, provided with buckets C C, open from the outside, and with inside zigzag buckets D D, as andfor the` purposes herein set forth.
21 vIn combination with a wash-boiler, the cylinder W. M. HATCH, Tnos. SLADE.
