ADVERTISEMENT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Au. 2, 1910.
V.Application led April 14, 1910. Serial No. 555,318.
To all whom it may concern: y
Be it known that I, ROBERT F. BiiizirniLn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kantner, in the county of Somerset, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertisement- Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others` skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
The invention relates to a paper holder and more particularly to the class of advertiseinent holders for receiving and distributing paper containing advertisements thereon.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character in which one or more rolls of paper may be ma be fed therefrom in varying lengths for distribution to the user.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder in which its top and front walls are united and separable from the casing, whereby access is had to the interior of the casing to enable the insertion of roll paper therein which roll paper may be delivered automatically to the user when desired.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an advertisement holder which is adapted to receive paper either in single or double rolls so that the paper may be automatically fed therefrom to the user and which paper contains suitable advertisements which are adapted to be displayed through a transparentface so that the same may be visible to a person, as the paper is fed from the holder.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a holder which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, inexpensive in the manufacture and one that is practically dust proof and sanitary.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention, which toenable those skilled in the art to carry the invention into practice, will be set forth in the following description, while the novelty of the invention will be pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings :-Figure I is a perspective elevation of an advertisement holder constructed in accordance with the inveiition. Fig. 2 is a further perspective view with the front portion removed and being i partly in section. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view through v the holder. Fig. -t is a detailed perspective view of the removable top and front section. Fig. `5
is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the feed roller showing the locking `pawl and ratchet wheel cooperative there with.
Similar reference characteis indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 8 designates generally a casing or receiver l comprising vertical side walls 9, a rear wall suitably suspended so that the said paper l0, bottom 1I and a unitary top and front 1 section 13, the latter being detachably mounted on the casing or receiver in a manner as will be hereinafter more fully described.
Suitably secured at the inner faces of the `side walls 9 are vertical brackets 11i, the
latter having downwardly and rearwardly extending inclined notches 15, detachably receiving the trunnion ends of rollers 16, arranged in superposed relation to each other and these rollers support paper rolls 17 and 1S, the latter paper roll 18 being fed downwardly through the delivery slot 19, contained in the bottom Il of the casing, while the roll 17 is turned over a friction roller 20, joui'naled near the forward upper portion of the casing sothat the said paper will be fed downwardly within the casing directly in rear of a front transparent panel 2l, carried by the unitary top and front section I3, the said transparent panel 2l being provided with beveled edges 22, engaged by a clamping ring 23, which is detachably secured to the unitary top and front section by means of fasteners 24, and this 'sheet of the paper roller 16 in its downward movement is delivered through the delivery slot 19 simultaneously with the sheet of the paper roll 18 to a user.
The bottom 11 of the casing is dished as at 25, to accommodate a feed roller 26, the latter being journaled transversely of the casing and having its bearings in opposite side walls 9 thereof and this roller 26 is of increased size with respect to and cooperates with a further feed roller 27, the latter being mounted transversely of the casing and havand by means of this ing its bearings in the side walls thereof, the sheets of the paper rolls 17 and 18 being fed between these feed rollers automatically as one journal end of the feed roller 26 has fixed thereto a gear 28, the latter meshing with a gear 29, carried by one Ijournal end of the feed roller 27, so that motion imparted to the latter will also be transmitted to the roller 26 and the said feed roller 27 is rotated by means of a knurled head 30, disposed on the opposite journal end of the said roller 27 exteriorly of the casing. This feed roller 27 is prevented from rotation in one direction by means of a locking pawl 31, engaging a ratchet wheel 32, xed to one journal end of the roller 27, and in this manner the strips of paper are prevented from being unwound from the rollers 16 within the casing but will be continuously fed exteriorly of the casing upon rotation of the feed rollers.
At one end of the feed roller 26 is formed a fin 33, the latter engagable with the spring trip finger 34, formed from a single piece of wire coil about the lug 35 and having its end 36 fixed to the side wall of the casing trip linger the feed rollers 26 and 27 upon one complete revolution are impeded in their rotation so as to permit the ready and easy tearing of the sheets of the paper rolls exposed from the casing.
The unitary top and front section 13 is detachably secured to the casing by means of a spring operated lock 37, engaging a projection 3S, projecting inwardly from the rear wall 10, the lock being disposed near one end of the top portion of said section while the opposite end is provided with an extension 39, detachably fitted in an off-set 40, at the lower-most portion in the front of the casing. The top portion of the section 13 is provided with a suitable rectangular shaped opening the same being covered by a beveled top transparent panel 41, the beveled edges of which beingvengaged by a clamping frame 42, which is detachably secured to the section by means of fasteners 43 and removably fitted in the opening in the tcp portion of the section 13 below the transparent panel 41, is a card 44, the front face of which is provided with suitable printing matter or advertisement adapted to be displayed through the transparent panel to be visible to a person exteriorly of the casing, and this card 44 is removably held in the opening in said section by spring fingers or clips 45, end fixed to the inner end of the section 13 while its opposite free end frictionally contacts with the bacl of the card and permits the ready removal thereof from between the spring fingers and the transparent panel.
The strip of the paper roll 17 on its outermost face is provided with suitable printed matter or advertisement to be exposed through the front panel 21, and visible exteriorly of the casing by a person.
lVhat is claimed as new is 1. An advertising device comprising a case, racks supported therein, oppositely rotatable feed rollers journaled transversely in the case and normally wound paper rolls rotatably supported in the case and adapted to be acted upon by the feed rollers to simultaneously eject the paper of the rolls from the case, a fin projecting from one of said feed rolls and a tensioned finger acting upon the fin upon the complete rotation of the feed roller carrying the fin to impede the movement of said roller.
2. An advertising device comprising a case, supported therein, oppositely rotatable feed rollers journaled transversely in the case and normally wound paper rolls rotatably supported in the case and adapted to be acted upon by the feed rollers to simultaneously eject the paper of the rolls from the case, a fin projecting from one of said feed rolls, a tensioned finger acting upon the fin upon the complete rotation of the feed roller carrying the iin to impede the movement of said roller, and gear connections between the feed rollers whereby the latter will rotate in opposite directions.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
