#Lauf UNITED STATES PATENT carica.
MORRIS FALK, or LEoMINs'rER, MAssAcHUsErrs.
DIE ron isnann'rrns, coimas,v AirnrHn man.
VSpecification of Ietterslatent. Application led June'2, 1909. Serial No.
To all whom 4it may concern: Be it known that I, Moiiius FALK', a fornier subject of the Emperor of Russia, (and who has declaredhis intention of becomin a citizen of the United States,) and a resident of Leominster, in the county of 1Worcester andA yState of Massachusetts,r have invented certain neu and useful 'lfinproiments in Dies for Barrettes, Combs, and the Like, of which the following a specification. My invention relates to cutters and presses', designed particularly for forming ornamental backs or bodies of barrettes o'r of combs.
It has for its object a die an press which is capable of cutting-a' ornamenting the stock at a single oierat'ion, and to so adjust the cutting an ornamental portion of the die that stock of different thicknesses may be operated upon. In a co-pendin application I have disclosed a means o adjusting the ornainentingmember with respect tothe supporting base' and cutting members; whereas, in the present a plication the cuttin member is adjustab e'with respect to the ascend ornamentin'g mem' ber. -I attain these objects in the die` set forth. in the following -specification and s hown in the accompanying drawings, in
'13 cutto any manner by The cutting member 14 fits about the erna- Figure 1 is a. plan view, and Fig. 2 an end view of the die. Fig; 3A is a vertical section taken o n the line 3 3, Fig. 1, and shows also a. portion of the press.`
Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views..
' Referring 'now to the drawings, 10 designates the base to which is secured the die 11l by means oftliescrews 12. This die consists of two members--the ornamenting member desired configuration, and the cutting member 14 of any desired contour. The ress 15 is designed. to coperate with the ie 11, and is-reciprocated in the u sual suitable mechanism (not sli-own).
linenting member 13 and may be in one piece,
e or may be sectional as shown.
.16 isfremovably secured to themember` '13 he section by means of screws 17 passing through slots 18 to said section; while the other section 19 is held to the ornamentin member 13 by means of suitable adjusta le screws 20 lpassing through theframepiece- 21, which is rivted or otherwise-suitably secured to loosened. The,` cutting member, surrounding the, ornamental member 'as shown, f is suitable for 4the ornamentin said base an "said base an creasesin cross-,sectional area downwardly, providing a face 22 against which bear screws 23'passng through the base 10. By-
adjusting these screws 23, the cutting me1nbei' may be suitably adjusted vertically to allow of the use of stock of different thicknesses. Of course in adjusting this 'cutting member, screws 127 entirely the stamping out of barrette bodies or backs; but if it be dcsiied to stamp out backs for combs, the section 16 is removed by withdrawing the screws 17.
Although Ihave shown the cutting meinber of the diel adjustable, it is to be understood .that I do not restrict mysel to niaking this'member adjustable as the same mayl `pper ends; an a press co-acting with said 2. In ade stamping. machinezabase; a die mounted thereon comprising an ornamenting member fixed to said base, and a cutting member about the saine; means to adjust said cutting n iein'ber with respect to justable supportingV screwspassing through supporting said cutting mem-Y ber upon their upper ends; anda press co actin with said die.
3. n a' die stamping machine: a base; a die mounted thereon comprising an ornamenting, member lixed to said base," and a cutting member about the same; means to adjust'said cutting member with respect to the ornamenting member, comprising adjustable supporting screws passing through supporting said cutting memratemec Der. es, giace.
- the base 10'. The cutting member provides ,at its top a sharp cutting edge,.and inand 20 have to be 'firstwithrespect `to the member, 1 comprising l adher upon their upper ends; means permitting vsuch adjustment for holding thecut ting member in engagement tvith the orna? inenting member `and a press co-acting with said die.
4, Ina die stamping machine: a base; a die mounted thereon 'comprising an ornamenting member, and ar cutting member aboutvthe same, having an upper edge of the contour of the finished material and being of increasing cross-sectional area downwardly; means to hold said cutting member f to said ornamenting member; screws passing through said base acting against the lower edge of said cutting member to adjust the same With respect to the ornamental member; and a; press co-acting With said die.
5.5`I1'14 a machine for cutting or stamping backs or bodies of barrettes or combs: la base a die mounted thereon comprising an ornamenting'member-xed toy said base, and a. sectional cutting member; means to adjust the sections of said cutting member with respect to the oruamenting member,`comp`ris ing adjustable supporting screws passing through said base and supporting said sections upon their upper ends.
Signed at Leominster, in the countj)r of Worcester and State of Massachusettsl this twenty-seventh day'of Ma A. D. 1909.
