To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT HAUoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jewett, in the county of Harrison and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Tmprovements in Harnesses, of which the following is a specification.

his invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in harness and the object of the invention is a simple, durable and eflicient construction of an improved attaching device which is adapted to securely connect together two or more straps and which is designed to supersede the ordinary attaching ring that is usually sewed to one of said straps for this purpose and that is liable to tear loose when subjected to excessive strain. And a further object of the invention is an improved breeching construction which embodies novel means for adjustably securing the breeching stays to the hip strap, and for securing one of the stays to the breeching strap.

lVith these and other objects in view that will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawing, in which:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

My improved breeching construction embodies a main frame which is preferably rectangular, but not necessarily so, and which consists of the side bars 1 and the upper and lower cross bars 2. This frame is provided between its ends with an intermediate cross bar 5 carrying a tongue 6 arranged for engagement with the hip strap F to detachably and adjustably secure the main frame thereto, the hip strap passing beneath the upper and lower cross bars of the frame and over the intermediate cross bar, as best seeirin Fig. 1. The lower cross bar 2 of thereof; Fig. 3 is a view show-- the frame is preferably wider than the upper cross bar, so as to substantially reinforce the frame at this point, and the latter is formed at the extremities of such lower cross bar with oppositely disposed preferably closed loops 3 through which pass the upper ends of the breeching stays D. The l lower end of one of these breeching stays is secured to the attaching ring provided at the adjacent end of the breeching strap E, while the lower end of the other breeching stay is passed around the upper cross bar 2 of a secondary frame 1, said secondary frame being preferably rectangular in form and being formed near its lower end with transversely alining laterally disposed loops 3 which are preferably open and in the form of hooks that face the upper cross bar 2 of the frame. These hooks 3 are arranged for engagement with transversely spaced headed studs 7 that project outwardly from the breeching strap, so as to effectually secure the corresponding breeching stay D thereto, it being obvious that upward tension upon said breeching stay tends to hold the hooks in engagement with the studs. A layer or reinforcing strap G is preferably sewed to the outer surface of the breeching strap E and passes over the secondary frame, the stitching extending around the open loops 3 and serving to hold the same against downward displacement which would result in their accidental disengagement from the studs.

Fig. 3 illustrates one modification of the invention in which the main frame is engaged with the neck or shoulder strap A, and is employed to secure the same to the breast strap B. In this case, the main frame is formed in its lower end with open loops 4 which are in the form of hooks that face the upper end of the main frame and are similar to the open loops 3 of the secondary frame, said hooks 4t engaging transversely spaced headed studs 7 carried. by the breast strap B, as shown. The forward end of the trace C is sewed to the outer surface of the breast strap, and extends across the frame with its stitching extending to or around the loops t, to prevent their accidental disengagement from the studs, the free extremity of the shoulder strap A passing beneath said end of the trace, which thus serves to retain said extremity in position. In the present instance, the main frame is formed between the intermediate cross bar 5 and the lower crossbar, with a transverse keeper 8 beneath which the free extremity of the shoulder strap is also passed, to be further secured in position. t

A strap-attaching device of the character described, comprising a frame formed be-' tween its ends with an intermediate cross bar carrying a strap-engaging tongue, said frame being formed at one end with oppositely and laterally disposed open loops that constitute hooks facing the other end of the frame, asand for the purpose specified.
