PATENT OFFICE;

MORAL METALLIC CABINET.
specification 0! Letters Patent.
' Patented Dec. 22, 1908.
' Application filed April 28, 1908. Serial No. 429,672.
To all whom it'ma'y concern: 1
Be it known that I, JOHN F. KERR, a citi- York, in the county of'New' York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Im rovement in Sectional Metallic Cabinets, 0 which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sectional metallic cabinets; and the object thereof is to rovide a sectional cabinet composed of a p urality of units, and a further object is to rovide im roved means for coupling and 100 'n toget er said units to effect a composite w ole structure, and to prevent the accidental displacement, disarrangement or disconnection of the units either vertically, laterally or transversely and for other purposes hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accom anying drawings illustrating my invention, igure 1 is a perspective view lurality of sectional units coup ed to et er; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one o the sectional units;
ig. 3 is a sectional view of a cabinet of my invention taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 1,
and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the same on the lines 2-2 of Fig. 1.
My invention includes, generally, a lurality of rectangular cases of correspon g sha e and dimensions, adapted to be couple an locked together verticall and laterally,
each of which is rovided wit a hook and an eye on its rear ower and upper edges, respectively, the hooks and eyes on adjacent cases or units being ada ted to interlock.
Each unit is also provide with a tongue on 'one side and a kee er on its opposite side,
the being adapte to. couple t e units to get er laterally. Projecting strips on the sides of each section or unit, adjacent to its front face, are adapted to embrace the lower edges of the section above and secure the two sections in perfect vertical alinement.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 designates my sectional cabinet, composed of a plurality of rectangular units 2 made of any suitable sheet metal. Each unit, as shown,
is provided with a door 3 hinged at the bottom and secured at the to by a suitable latch 4. The units 2 are a apted to be assembled and built to ether either vertically or horizontally or bot and for this purpose I provide means for coupling the. adjacent edges of the units when arranged vertically,
. and also means for uniting the abutting sides thereof when arranged in horizontal reorm' a com osite whole structure when same 'is built bot vertically and horizontally and retain the units in perfect alinement and correspondence, and to prevent accidental displacement, and at the-same time permit the convenient disconnection of the units or the addition thereto. For the said urposes, I
rovide each unit 2 with a hoo 5 on the ower ed e of the back face, and on the upper edge of t e back is provided a tab 6 pro ecting slightly above the top of the unit and bent outwardly at an acute angle to the plane of the back of the unit to accommodate the hook 5. Said tab is pierced-to form an eye 7 to receive the hook 5. Each of the units is also rovided with reinforcing vertical metal strips 8 on its sides ad'acent to its front edge, which projects slightl tpip of the unit thus forming flanges 9 which are a apted toembrace the sides 0 the unit next above and secure same in vertical alinement therewith. On one side of each unit 2,a metal strip 10 is suitably secured horizon tally at its ends, intermediate of which the stri is bent slightly outwardly thus forming wit the side a keeper 11. On the opposite side of each unit and at corresponding position with the strip 10, a downwardly extend ing metal tongue 12 is secured, which is of an adjacent unit. Inuniting the units vertically, the hook 5 is coupled with the tab 6 through the eye 7, therein, at the backs thereof, and the upper unit fits between and is embraced by the flanges 9 on the top of the lower unit. In arranging the units horizontally to build the cabinet laterally, the tongue 12 on one unit engages the keeper 11 on an abutting unit, thereby securin the units and vertical tiers .against latera displacement.
To separate the units, the top one may be raised at the front to disengage the tongue 12 and the hook 5 from their respective coactin parts, or an entire vertical tier of units may e lifted out of engagement with those ad'acent thereto.
l'laving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. A sectional cabinet com rising a plurality of units, hooks on the ower edges of the backs thereof, perforated tabs on the upper edges thereof adapted to couple with v lation, both of said means cooperating tozen of the United States, residing at New f y above thesaid hooks, andvertical flanges on the sides: unit and 'ahorizontal strip on the opposite thereof ad acent to the front adapted to emside thereof adapted to engage the said brace the 'sides of the unitabove and pretongue on the abutting unit, as and for the 15 serve their vertical alinement, substantlally purposes described. I 5.61s described. 'In testimony whereof, I have hereunto '2. A sectional cabinet comprising. a lusignedmy name in the presence of two subrality ofunits, hooks on the lower edge 0 the scribing witnesses. r backs thereof, perforated tabs on the upper edges thereof adapted to couple with said x a 10 hooks; Vertical flanges on the sides of-each W'itnesses:
unit adapted'to embrace the sides of the G. R; CROSBY, units above, a tongue on one side of each 7 W. O. LLOYD.
