CANDY-PACKAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28, 1908.
Application filed March 13, 1906. A Serial No. 305,783.
candy from atmospheric influences.
Figure 1 represents aperspective view of a candy package embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a transverse section thereof on line ne-x Fi 1 Fig. 3 represents a perspective view oflthe backing employedl ig. 4 represents a perspective view of a portion of said backing and of-a piece of candy therein.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts inthe figures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates a backing formed of a late B of. metal with short flanges O aroun the sides and ends of the same. v
D designates a cake or piece of candy which is adapted to be place in the backing A, a sheet E of paraflin, wax orother suitable paper being inserted between said cake and backing as a linin to remove the former). from contact with t e metal of the latter, it being seen that the candy is firmly held on the plate A, tightly embraced by the flanges C, which are somewhat resilient and press inwardly against the sides of the candy, the backing providing a stiffening inclosure for the candy, whereby it may be packed, transported and handled without liability, under ordinary circumstances of being fractured or becoming displaced from the backing. and pieces of the candy may be broken-off with-. out necessarily loosening the remainder. In handling the candy, the backing acts as a tray or pan therefor, the eflect of which is evident.
In order to protect the candy from the influence of the atmosphere, the sheet E is continued around the top of the same, thus completely inclosing and covering the candy. A wrapper F of metal foil is then folded on the exterior of the cover E and its outer endpresheet completely inclosingl vented from opening or separating by means of a binder G which embraces s-ald end and the contiguous portion of the wrapper F, it
is flat and compact and-one that maybe easily handled, conveniently carried, mcely packed in small compass and trans orted being evident that I produce a package that with all of the advantages of a box, w thout the employment of a lid therefor.
, In practice, the cake or bar of candy is placed in the backin while in warm and pliable condition, so t at when it is cold and set, itis hardened and is taken firm hold 'of by the backin and conforms to the sha e thereof, where y its retention within t e backing is assured and it is in admirable condition to be covered and wrapped without liability to crack or break.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is:
' 1. A candy package consisting of a plate of rigid material adapted to sup grt and shape a piece of candy and having anges to tightly embrace the candy and bind it in said plate, a wrapper ofprotecting material interposed between the ody of said plate and its flanges and receiving the candy said flanges being of less hei ht than the candy and tightly embracing t e same, and metalfoil covering said wrapper.
2. A ,oandy package consisting of a plate of rigid material adapted to sup ort and shape a piece of candy and having anges to tightlyembracethe candy, a' wrapper of protecting material interposed between the body of said plate and its flanges and receiving the candy said flanges being of less height than the candy, and tightly embracing the same, metal foil covering said wrapper, and a binder around said foil.
3. A candy package comprising a backing plate with surrounding flanges of less height than, and constructed to sup ort and sha e a piece-of candy and to tightly embrace t e same, said flanges being resilient-and of less height than the candy to press against the sides and ends of the latter, a wrapper of protecting material supported on said-back- 1ng=to receive the candy, said protecting and covering the candy, a'wrap er of meta foil covering and inclosing the backing late and the other parts, and a binder embracing the end and contiguous portion of said Wrapper.
bracing the outer end and contiguous portion of the wrapper, said plate, wrapper and protecting sheet formin a plurality of thicknesses upon all sides 0 the candy and the latter prevented from cracking or breaking during wrapping or shipment.
