To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EMMA O. OLSON, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Cake-Hives, of which the folowing is a specification.

This invention-is designed to supply means of novel formation intended chiefly for preserving cake and preventing the same drying out and losing its flavor and becoming unpalatable. The appliance is equally well adapted for preserving all kinds of pastries and sweetmeats and may be constructed either for household use or for universal application for store-keepers.

The invention consists of a base having a vertical rim, a pendent support and an outer ledge and a cover for said base of bell form approximating the shape of a dome or the well-known beehive, said cover being threaded to the vertical rim and having a packing gasket interposed between its lower edge and the projecting ledge of the base.

The invention further consists of the novel features and details of construction which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated and claimed.

In the pending drawings forming a part of the specification; Figure 1 is a side view of a cake hive embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the base.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The base comprises a central portion 1 having at, or near, its outer edge a vertical rim 2, a pendent support 3 and an outwardly projected ledge 4. The central portion 1 is of a thickness to insure strength and durability according to the size of the article and the material of which the same is formed. Thevertical rim 2 is exteriorly threaded and is set in from the pendent support 8 a distance to admit of the outer surface of the rim 2 and the inner surface of the support 3 being approximately in alinement with each other.

In the preferable construction, the support 3 is of annular formation, thereby giving strength to the base. The ledge 4 is of a less thickness than the central portion of the base and may be of any outline and finish according to the design of the article.

It is observed that by having the vertical rim 2 set inward from the pendent annular support 3, the latter is in line with the side walls of the cover and directly sustains the weight and stress thereof.

In the preferable construction, the base and cover are formed of glass, although metal, or other material may be employed in the formation of the same.

The parts may be of any size depending upon the special use, and may be ornamented, or finished, according to any design.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

In a cake hive, the combination of a base comprising a central portion provided towards its outer edge with an integral pendent annular support, an exteriorly threaded vertical rim projecting upwardly from the base and intregral therewith, and an integral laterally extending ledge surrounding the base and being of less thickness than the central portion thereof, the said vertical rim being set in from the pendent annular support so that the outer face of the former is approximately in alinement with the inner face of the latter, a dome shaped cover interiorly threaded at its lower end to match .the screw threads of the before mentioned vertical rim, and a packing gasket surrounding the rim and interposed between the edge of the cover and the projecting ledge of the base.
