Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH NAIPOLDER LE VASSEUR-BELISLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsboro and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Threading Devices for Lo0m- Shuttles, of which the following is a specification.
This improved device for use in threading loom shuttles; the objects in view being to produce a very simple device designed to readily engage the lead-end of the fillingthread and with facility conduct the same through the pot-eye of the shuttle and out at the side.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shuttle embodying my improvements, the same being shown in con nection with my threading-device, the full lines indicating the position of the parts prior to the threading of the shuttle and the dotted lines indicating the position of the parts subsequent to such threading. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the shuttle, the section being taken through the pot-eye.

1 designates the shuttle-body, having the usual filling-opening 2, spindle 3, and filling l. In advance of the filling-opening there is formed the pot-eye 5, which communicates with the side-eye 6, as is usual. In the present instance, however,.the side-eye 6 is curved, as shown, being, therefore, of segmental shape, and the same is provided with a metal lining 7, though as will be obvious, the metal lining may be omitted.

The operation of the invention is as follows: The lead-end of the filling-threml is given a couple of winds about the coiled threader, the thread readily taking between the coils, after which the leading end of the threader is inserted downwardly into the pot-eye, and being flexible, follows the curvature of the side-eye and emerges from the side-eye at the side of the shuttle. From this position it may be drawn and with it comes the filling-thread. The engagement between the filling-thread and the threader is very slight, so that, as a result, after the threader has passed through. the pot and side-eyes the thread will become disengaged from the threader without further effort upon the part of the operator. The threader, it will be understood, is very flexible, and therefore, readily follows the contour of the side-eye.
It will be readily appreciated that the threader can be produced at a very small cost, and that by its use the operation of threading a shuttle is greatly facilitated, and this too, without altering the construction of the shuttle itself or applying thereto any extraneous means calculated to catch the filling ormaterial being woven.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is:
A threader for loom-shuttles consisting of spring wire formed into a series of coils.
