UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK MALCOLM nossos, or DONGASTER, ENGLANDfigf i APPARATUS FOR CLEANING AND SEPARATING SEEDS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 24, 1907.
Application filed June 7,1907. Serial No- 377,768.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK MALCOLM DossoR, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Doncaster, in the county of York, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Cleaning and Separating Seeds and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a further improvement on my prior patent No. 846,915, dated 12 March 1907, and relates to an improved construction of the hoppers and covers for the belts of the rollers, to an improved construction of brackets for carrying the said covers and rollers, and to modified means of adjusting the angle of the frame. Description of drawings.Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is an enlarged 'end view detached showing part of the frame and four brackets with their rollers, belts, covers, hoppers, and curtains, the lowest hopper boards being shown in section. Fig. 3 is an end view of the frames carrying the boards forming the covers and hoppers. Fig. 4 is a plan of Fig. 3 showing the frame and part of the said boards. Fig. 5 is a front view of bracket showing recess for metal frames, curved slot, and triggers.
A is the frame of the machine (preferably of wood) and A the feed hopper.
B are the metal brackets screwed or otherwise fixed to the frame A and each carrying a set of rollers C, D, and belts B, the rollers being in bearings or slots E, held in by spring trigger caps F for facilitating removal or replacement when required, or they may be in ordinary bearings. There is also a flat recess P and curved slot R in each bracket for carrying the metal frame S, into which the boards G, H, and J fit and form the covers and hoppers for keeping the seed from jumping when rolling down the steep surfaces of the belts, the board I being provided with a curtain K which checks or breaks the speed of the falling seed and delivers it gently to the next belt through the opening The bottom of the frame is pivoted or hinged to the box 71.
The adjustment of the angle of the framework and its rollers may be arranged by means of pivoted rods M from the back of the machine, the ends of the rods resting in a notched angle bracket N at the back of the tray in which the apparatus stands.
I claim:
1. In a seed separator, the combination, with a main frame, of a series of brackets secured thereto, pairs of revoluble rollers and endless belts arranged in the form of steps and mounted in the said brackets, T-shaped frames carried by the said brackets, and hopper boards carried by the said Tshaped frames and arranged over the said belts.
2. In a seed separator, the combination, with a main frame, of a series of brackets secured thereto, pairs of revoluble rollers and endless belts arranged in the form of steps and mounted in the said brackets, T-shaped frames carried by the said brackets, hopper boards slidable in the said T-shaped frames and provided with openings for the .seed over the middle parts of the said belts, and curtains secured to the lower ends of the said hopper boards for guiding the seeds into the said openings.
3. In a seed separator, the combination, with a main frame, of a series of brackets secured thereto and provided with slots, pairs of rollers provided with bearing spindles journaled in the said slots, spring trigger caps retaining the said spindles in the said slots, endless belts passing over the said pairs of rollers and arranged in the form of steps, and hopper boards arranged between the said belts.
FREDERICK MALCOLM DOSSOR.
Witnesses JOHN R. WALSH, ALLAN BENNETT.
