UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES D. BOURNE, OF STUTTGART, ARKANSAS.
UNCOlLINC-Tuv DEVICE FOR WIRE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed May 14: 1906- Serial No. 316,766.
No. 856,761. Patented June 11,1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES D. BOURNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stuttgart, in the county of Arkansas and the State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in an Uncoiling Device for upper end or apex of the outer cone frame, and in the bracket is journaled a loose pulley C. A standard D is carried by the arms A at their juncture, and the inner barrel frame E is provided at its lower end with cross pieces E" and at its upper end with carried by the fire, of which the following is a specifiea a cross piece E The cross pieces E are pertion. forated as shown at E to slip over the standard D and the cross piece is perforated as shown at E for the same purpose, and the frame is locked in position by a nut E which fits on a threaded portion D of the standard D. The uppermost hoop B carries a cross bar F, perforated at F for the wire to pass through, this perforation being concentric with respect to the two frames.
In operation the wire coil is first placed on the cross arms A which form a base for the wire, and the two frames are then placed in position, and the end of the wire carried spirally around the inner barrel frame and upwardly through the perforation F and over the pulleyf). The entire coil can be run off as used without tangling or kinking. The barrel shape of the inner cylindrical frame prevents the coil from rising or springing up wardly, while the outer frame prevents the coils from springing outwardly into large loops which would become entangled, or kinked.
By means of this device it is not necessary to cut the wire into separate lengths to handle it, or to rewind the coil on spools.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the kind described, comprising inner and outer frames spaced apart, means for holding a wire coil between the frames, a perforated bar carried by the outer frame and above the inner frame, and a pulley for the wire to run over.
2. A device of the kind. described, comprising an outer coneshaped frame, and inner barrel-shaped frame, a base for supporting a wire coil, and a pulley at the apex of the cone frame for the wire to run over.
3. A device of the kind described, comprising a base adapted to support a wire coil, a standard thereon, an outer frame supported by the base and detachable therefrom, a barrel-shaped frame adapted to fit within the cone-shaped frame and "fitting over the This invention relates to a device for holding a coil or bundle of wire while the same is being unwound for purpose of use, as for example tying bales of hay etc.
The object of the invention is to provide me ans whereby the wire may be used directly from the original factory coils without tangling, kinking or forming loops, thereby avoidmg the expense of rewinding or spooling.
The invention is especially adapted for use in connection with baling hay. In this work it has been customary to provide the wire cut in lengths believed to be suitable and provided with a loop at one end. This wire is more expensive than the coiled uncut wire, and frequently the strip must be spliced in order to tie, as the bales vary in size.
My invention consists of two frames between Which the coil rests, the inner frame preventing the wire springing upwardly and the outer frame preventing it from springing outwardly and looping, and means for giving a direct upward pull on the wire as it is un. coiled.
In the accompanying drawings 2 Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device complete and assembled for use. Fig. 2 is aplan view of the base for holding in coil, with the outer frame only in position, and its vertical members being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken through the lower portion of the inner frame. Fig. 4 is a diametrical section through the outer frame, and the inner frame being shown in diametric section. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
In these drawings A represents a pair of cross-arms having upturned ends and upon which the coil of wire to be unwound rests. The outer frame of the device is cone-shaped and comprises a base ring B detachably held by bolts and nuts to the upturned ends of the arms A, and vertically arranged members B, the whole being provided with suitable hoops B arranged adjacent the upper end of the frame. These parts B, B and B form a-skelstandard, means for locking the inner frame eton cone. The inner frame E is smaller and in position, and a pulley carried by the apex is barrel-shaped, also being preferably of skelof the outer frame.
