Description
ve M WMM@ f 'l "te @tlmml tant tatentldttm.. E. et' "te" W mi se HENRY I-I. PALMER, O11" ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
Letterx Patent No, 84,300, dated November 24, 1868.
IMPROVED vSPRINGt-IBED BOTTOM.
To .ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that l, Hnxnr HfPALnnn, of Rockford, in the county ot'\Yi11nebago, and Sta-te ot'jlllinois, have invented a new and improved Spring-Bed Bottom; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description ofthe same, reference bein g had to the accompanying th'am'ngs, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to certain improvements in spring-bed bottoms; and consists principally in a novel combination and arrangement of parts, which are believed to be old in themselves, b v means of which a durable a-nd desirable bed-bottom is obtained, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings- Figure l represents a plan view ot my improved bedbottom;
Figure 2,'a side elevation, aportion being broken away, to show the springs; and
Figure 3, a view of the same, with the springs depressed'as when in use.
The same letters refer to identical parts in all tl1e dra-wings.
To enable those skilled in the artto make and use vmy invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents a rectangular frame, which may be constructed of any desired size.
o 'c represent slats, ofthe usual constructioi'i, to the ends of which are attached the single or forked stra-ps B, which latter may be made of leather or any other suitable tiexible material. These straps are caught over hooks or pins upon the hea-d or foot-pieces, as shown.
F F represent springs, resting upon the cross-pieces E E, and securely attached thereto, in the usual manner.
Their upper ends bear against the slats c c, and are held securely in position by the projections G upon the under sides of the slats, as clearly shown in iig. 2.
This is a serious object-ion to bottoms in which the ends ot' the slats are not secured.v
All side-play is prevented by means of the band D. While all end and side-play is prevented, yet any portion ofthe bed will yield readily to the pressure of the body, without affecting the other parts of the bed, as is the case when the slats are rigidly connected together.
The whole bottom is secure, and may be walkedv upon, as is sometimes necessary, without either 'injury to the bottom or to the person who walks.
By the arrangement of the strapsB, the slats .are made high in the middle, so that when the bed is occupied, andthe springs are depressed, the occupant Wl lie perfectly straight.
I am we ll aware that most if not all of the parts of my invention are old, but the combination is believed to be entirely new, and b v it a most desirable bedbottom is obtained Having thus fully described my invention,
'hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States, is-
The bed-bottom described, consisting of the fra-:ne-
Q-X with cross- Jieces E slats c with stra s B and ron u l l 7 i `lcctions G, springs F and band D, the whole being combined and arranged as and for the pinpose vset forth.
