Be it known that I, FRITzLooHEYma citif zen of the Republic ofSwitzerland, resid-ing ,at Zrich,A Switzerland., have invented cer-I ta1n. new` and useful Improvements `in Molds,
for`Constructing Hollow Concrete Columns and I do hereby'declarethe'following to be afull, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others `skilled in the specification.
The sub`ect of my invention is an appara-` hollow beton or concrete pil-- "tus for ma ing larsor columns.
The new apparatus consists of arnold com-v posed of a plurality of superposeld detachvably-connccted sections each com irisng an outer shell and a core inclosed by the same.
One forniof construction of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which y Figure l is a side elevation; Fig. 2, avertical section through tht lower portion of Fig. 1 drawn to a larger scale; Fig. 3, across-sec tion on the line A B of Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a crosssection through. a concrete column 'constructed by means of the apparatus, and Fig. 5 a sectionalview illustrating the structure employedf'or supporting the mold when making such a concrete column.

To construct a column, I proceed inthe following manner: On the foot n all the shellsections are erected, and on the sup port p to start with yonly the lowest core section, whereupon the annular space between the shell and the core of this lowest column-section .is filled out with concrete. On the bottom core-section the next higher one is now set and the space between shell and core then filled out with concrete, as before, and sc on, working from platform to platform until all the sections have been erected one upon the other and the annular spaces between shells and cores filled up with concrete. During this procedure the core of the mold must be turned from time to Vtime by rotation of the c support, the motion of the latter being transmit tedto the core above bymeans of the dow e1- pins m. The purpose of this rotation of the core-atintervals is to prevent the concrete mass from adhering to the wall of'the core. When the concrete `in the mold has hardened, the core has to be withdrawn. and bolts having elongated heads and tailpieces passing througlvthe slots of each two `adjacent transverse members, the distance between the head and tail Yof the bolts being greater than the distance between the top of one transverse member and the bottom of the adjacent one; substantially as described.
3. In apparatus for making hollow concrete columns, in combination, a tubular mold, consisting of a plurality of superposed sections; a hollow core, consisting of a plurailty of superposed sections, located within themold; and dowel-pins on the end of each core entering recesses in the adjacent end of the next core; substantially as described.
