Be it known that I, Joris PEPPER, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fishp-oles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to an im roved fishole; and I declare that the fo lowing is a ull, clear, concise, and exact description thereof-suflicient to enable one skiiled in the art to make and use the saine, reference bein had to the accompanying drawings, in whic like letters and numerals refer-to like parts throughout.

M invention consists in a fish ole which com ines means whereb it may e used for a variety of urposes. t may be used as a bait-rod, a flp rod, or a casting-rod, as wili be seen and appreciated by those skilled in the art from the following descri tion.

The device comprises two han lerips-Ji. e., a stock and a rip-which maygbe used singly or alternaty or in combination in a variety of positions, and attachable thereon is reducing means for mountin any one of a number of joints or sections o the pole and a line-guide of a articular jforni which permits the line to be -sconiiected Jfrom a section of the pole which it ma Ybe desired to remove without unstringing the line and a further attachment aiding the asp of the pole.

Referring to the figures more in detail, A is a pole butt or stock havingahand-gri a and adapted to mount a reel B, with fixe rin t and sliding rin b. The ends are centrally bored, having tips screw-threaded at 1, adapted to receive the cap C on either end or to receive the reducing-rin to be described. The bore at each end of this section is of suitable size to receive the butt-end of the iirst section of the pole or of the smaller end of the grip D. Grip D is centrally bored at the opposite end of proper diameter to receive the iirst section of the ole, (indicated by E,) the tip bein outwardly screw-threaded lto receive eit er the cap C to close the openingor the reducin -ring. The hand grip or stock D can be fitte into either end of the stock A, so that the reel ma be above or below rip a or above or below oth of the grips or etween them, thus meeting every possible demand in that regard, the occasions for the uses of these dierent arrangements being apparent to the skilful fisherman.

Either hand-grip may be used alone with either reducer, so that a pole of any possible lenh, according to the length of its sections an for any particular purpose, may be mounted.

The reducing device comprises rin F, screw-threaded to fit on either end cig the stoekAor on grip D. G shows reducing-ierrules made in diiierent sizes and adapted to receive the butt of the pole-section to be mounted and having at one end an annular shoulder g of the same diameter as the adjacent end of the `p and adapted to be received into the ring which extends therebeyond sufficiently to be screwed iirmly onto the grip. The ferrules of different sizes I provide to receive the several pole-sections, each of which can by this construction be inounted'on either end of stock A or on section B.

In Figs. l, 6, and 7 I show finger-grip H, mounted in the stock on the opposite side from the reel. In Fig. 1 this is shown as being screwed into the butt or gri which usually isof metal at that point or has a metal ferrule or band; but in said Figs. 6 and 7 the ole is cut out or the metal ferrule may be ormed so as to provide recess h, at one end of which the fin er-grip is pivoted bear-in against spring mounted in the bottom o the recess, so that the finger will be held open or closed, as indicated.

In Figs. 8, 9, and 10 is shown the line-guide, which is formed of wire in two prongs 5, bent symmetrically upward and to one side, taking a curve downward on the other side and backward and upward over the iirst curve, so that the line may be slipped into the two rings 6, thus formed by layiri a loop of the line on the side of the linee, as indicated by 7, and drawing the enduiiplward together, which immediately crowds t em into the guide.

The operation may be reveresd to remove the line by holding the finger and thumb against the rings with the line between, as indicated lin Fig. 10, and then pulling the ends of the oop.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. Afishpole having a pluralit of handlesections, the same being reversib y mounted, in combination with line-sections and means for mounting the same interchangeably on the handle-sections, the said line-sections being provided with line-guides adapted to perm1t removal of a pole-section Without unstringing the line, substantially as described.

2. A iishpole having a plurality of grips adapted to be mounted in reversed posltion to locate a reel mounted thereon above or below both ips or between the same,substan tially as eseribed.

3. In a iish ole, a handle member and a plurality of ine sections adapted to be mounted in series thereon, the combination of a screw-threaded ring and reducing-ferrules each adapted to be secured on the hanthe screw-threaded ring but different sizes to receive difdle member bfy constructed o Aferent line-sections, substantially as deto receive a pole-section, and means for interchangeably mounting on any of said recessed ends the line-supportin sections of a pole, substantially as describe 5. In a fishpole, a plurality of handle membersJ each adapted to support a line-carrying section, the said handle members being construoted to permit alternative assembling of the same to dispose the grip portions of the hand members 1n juxtaposition above or below the reel or one on each side of the reel.
