CHARLES J. SUTTER, OF WEST HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
BABY-CARRIER.
SPEGIFIGA'IiON forming part of Letters PatentNo. 781,033, dated January 31, 1905,
Application filed September 23, 1904. Serial No. 225,609. I
'To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OHARL s J. SUTTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Carriers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved device for carrying a baby and which is adapted to be connected with a belt or other device at a womans waist and also to be held in a horizontal position by a belt-passing over one shoulder and on which a child may be seated and conveniently carried; and
with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified,
constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the sepa rate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, in which Figure 1 1s a front View of my lmproved 1 child or baby carrying device and indicating struction shown consists of a frameb the method of ,its operation or use; Fig. 2, a plan view of the seat portion of the device, and Fig. 3 a cross-section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. r
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have indicated at a the figure of a woman, and in the practice of my invention I provide a seat 6, which in the form of conupholstered, as shown at 6 the frame being filled in with hair or other upholstering material,
which is held in place by top and bottom sheets 6 secured to the frame .72 and composed of leather, canvas, or any suitable material.
In Fig. 2 the back of the seat is shown at b and the front thereof at Z), and the opposite sides of the seat are curved inwardly, as shown at Z) hooks 0, which open downwardly and which are connected with the seat 6 so as to turn thereon at 0 The opposite side of the seat is provided with rings, eyes, or other attachlng devices d, two of which are shown, with and one side of the seat is provided with which are connected a strap or straps 6, this connection being preferably made by means of snap-hooks.
In practice the hooks c are connected with a belt f, which is secured around the waist, and the strap or straps e are passed over the shoulder opposite the seat 5, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and the baby or child to be carried .is placed on the seat 6, and in this position the strap or straps e serve to hold the child in position on the seat 6, and-one arm of the party carrying the child may also be used for the same purpose. This, as'will be understood, leaves one arm free, and both arms may also be used at times and under certain circumstances for any desired purpose, the child remaining seated, as will be readily understood. When desired or necessary, the hooks 0 may be reversed and the seat turned over and used on the opposite side for the purpose of resting the party carrying the child or changing the strain caused thereby.
My invention is not limited to any particular form or construction of seat, and changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be" made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'.
1.- A seat-support for use in carrying a child, said seat-support being provided at oneside with hooks adapted to engage a belt at one side of the waist of the carrier, and at the opposite side with a strap adapted to be passed over the opposite shoulder of the carrier, substantially as shown and described.
2. A seat provided at one side with hooks which. open downwardly and at the opposite side with a strap or straps, said hooks being reversible, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing 'as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 22d day of September, 1904:.
