Description
W. H. WATROUS. ELEGTROPLATING FRAME.
No. 78,497. Patented June 2, 1868.
WILLIAM H. WA'IROUS, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
11mm Patent No.,78,497. Jailed June 2, 1868.
IMPROVED ELEOTRO-PLATING FRAME.
ii-lgc gtllthlllt rriemh in in tins: Enters Qaimi an: illlllllllg gait of the same TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known lhah 1', WILLIAM H. WATROUS, of Hartford, in the county of Hartford, and Slate of Connectieut,'lnu'e'invenledn new and useful Improvement in. Elccho-Plnting Frame or Holder; and I do hereby declare that, ille following in a full, clear, and exact description thereof. which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the some, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this epecificotiom- This invention relates to a new and improved implement or frame for holding spoons or forks, or articlesof .a similar nature, suspended in the eleetro-plnting liquid.
And it consists of a-irume formed of two jaws, jointed together, with on adjusting-screw at the top of the shanks, whereby tho'jnwa may be opened and closed for tho inseriion or removal, or for the reo rijnszing of the. articles, as willbo hcroincfccr more fully described.
Fignce 1 represents-o ricwof the holder or frame complete, with a spoon held within the jaws, as when being plated.
Figure 2 is a top View of the jam: of the frame, looking from the line 2: a: of fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the frame.
This holding-frumo conaists of two jaws, A cud B, to which are connected two shanks, G and D. The ahlnks are jointed together by a pin or pivot, as seen at El.
Al: the top and: of these slmniisthere is e thumb-screw, F, which is fixed in one shank, and works through qthc other shank by a screw-thread, so that when the screw islurned out or in, 'tbe jaws A B will be opened of cloned, the shanks acting like levers, with their fnlcrn at E.
The jaws A ond'B-aro notched or serrated, as soon in fig. 2, to allow the handle of a spoon, fork, or knife to rest in and bo'buspended from the notches or recesses g, as seen in the drawing. 7
By the ordinary method of plating, the article is'snspended by a wire, which usually leaves marks on the handle where it comes in contact with it.
To overcome thisiabjeotion, and to otherwise greatly facilitate the operation-of plating, is he object I have in view.
My jaws A and B would also leave marks on the handle if the, point of contact were not changed by sc -en" ing up the top ends of the shank, and thus opening the jaws, and thereby allowing the handles to clip down enough to change the vpoint of contact, which, it will be seen, {:nn bereadily (lone.
h is a hook for suspending the frame.
The jaws and the lower part oi the shanhsare protected from the action of the cleetro-plaling liquid or metal by a. non-conducting covering, which is indicated by the red color.
.I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pntent- The holding-frame A, constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein shown and described.
The above specification of my' invention signed by me, this 18th day of April, 1868.
WILLIAM II. WATBOUS.
