Be it known that we, SARAH FISCHER and MAX FIsoiIER, citizens of the United States, residing in New York, borough of Manhattan,

5 and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Douche-(Jmmodes, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to certain improve- IO ments in douche commodes to be used by women in douching, said commode being so arranged that the same can be used without any spilling of liquids and in such a manner that the woman reclines in a comfortable position on the structure with the feet supported on a footboard and the back and head resting on a headboard; and for this purpose the invention consists of a douche-connnode comprising a main frame provided with an opening in its top part and a bottom for supportinga pan, a sliding cover for the main frame guided in side ways of the same and arrested by a stop device when in extended position, and a headpiece provided with stationary legs applied to 5 the outer end of the sliding cover, said legs folding into the commode when the main part is not in use, while the cover slides over the main frame.

The invention consists, further, of certain 3 details of construction, which will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of our improved douche-commode shown in folded-up position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the same extended for use. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 2. Fig. 4is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 1, showing the 4 parts in folded-up position; and Fig. 5 is a detail side view showing the connection of the main frame with the sliding cover.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the main frame of our improved douche-commode. This main frame is preferably made of rectangular shape and provided with legs a at the corners. The top D of the main frame is provided with an opening a, as shown in Fig. 2. 5 Below the opening a the main frame is provided with a bottom to support a fiat pan or basin d, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The front wall f of the main frame A is hinged and guided by suitable straps, so as to be lowered into inclined position. (Shown in Figs. 2 and 3.) In this position the pan or basin can be readily inserted and removed, while the wall serves at the same time as a foot-rest when the douche-commode is in use.

The top D protrudes somewhat beyond the mainframe A, so as to act as guideways for angular keepers K, attached to the front end of sliding cover B. The corner-posts E of the main frame A. do not quite extend up to 5 the top 1), forming thereby channels or recesses 7), so as to permit the passage of the angular keepers K. Two of these recesses those nearest the front doorf'-do not extend along the whole width of the corner-posts E; 7 but some of the material is left or suitable stops or lugs are provided to prevent the top D from being pushed over and beyond the same. The other corner-posts E are recessed throughout their whole width and provided 7 5 with an angular down\vardly-extending depression 7), in which the bent end of the keepers or lugs is dropped when the cover B is moved in extended position, so as to drop on a level with the top of the main frame A. To permit 8 this to be accomplished, the top D does not quite extend to the end of the main frame, and metal plates or stops 7) are suitably attached to the corner-posts to permit the top 1) from being pulled out too far. This side of the main frame is left open, so as to permit the insertion or entrance of the legs G, the head-rest C, to which they are attached, then serving to close the open side of the main frame. lnstead of the keepers and protruding ends of the top I) any other suitable gu iding means may be p rovidedsuch as rollers, metallic ways, and so on--which may be either arranged in the lower part of the top 1) or in the side walls of the main frame. To the opposite end of the cover 13 5 is hinged a headboard C, the adjacent edges of the cover and headboard being beveled, so that the headboard C can be placed in in clined position when the cover B is extended. The headboard O is provided with stationary feet G, by which it is supported in inclined position, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

hen the structure is in extended position, the same is ready for use as a douche-commode. In using the same the woman first assumes a sitting position on the commode and then reclines so that the back rests on the head board 0, while the feet rest on the footboard f. The douche is then applied in the usual manner while the body is in the position described. After use the headboard C, with legs Gr, is folded to the under side of the cover B, the end of the cover to which the keepers are attached lifted, and the coverB slid over the top' of the main frame A by means of the keepers and guideways, so that the legs G move inwardly into the main frameA at both sides of the pan or basin. The side Walls may be provided with an inclined cleat, so as to lift up the legs, and so place the headboard C in vertical position, so that it forms the end wall of the commode when in folded-up position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. In this position an ordinary stool-shaped structure is formed. The cover may be upholstered, so that it forms a kind of seat when folded up, said upholstered portions serving also for rendering the commode more comfortable.

The douche-commode can be used as an ordinary commode, if desired. It forms a very convenient and comfortable device for douching without soiling the floor or carpet or producing any other inconveniences heretofore experienced in douching. It is of special advantage in the treatment of female diseases, as it facilitates the douching with medicated liquid solutions.

.Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A douche-commode, consisting of a main frame provided with supportlng-legs and a central opening in its top and having its front and rear ends open, a sliding cover provided with a hinged headboard at its outer end, angular keepers secured to the other end of the sliding cover said angular keepers having one member extending downwardly for engaging the guideways of the main frame, recesses in the corner-supports of the main frame, plates secured to said corner-supports forming one side of said recesses whereby the cover is locked on a level with the top of the main frame when in extended position by engagement of the downwardly-extending portions of the angular keepers with the sides of the recesses in the corner-supports of the main frame, supporting legs on said headboard adapted to be inserted in the open rear end of the main frame when the sliding cover is moved so as to cover the main frame; the headboard being then the rear side of the frame, a foot-rest hinged to the front of the main frame and closing the front end of the main frame and means for limiting the movement of the sliding cover in either direction, substantially as set forth.
