Description

PATENTED SEPT.'6,' 1904.
E. NORQUIST.-
METAL TANK APPLIOATION FILED MAB. 9, 1904. N0 MODEL.-
' INVE TOR.
BY 0AM ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES Patented September 6, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
METAL TANK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,271, dated September 6, 1904.
Serial No. 197,218.
, Application filed March 9,1904.
T0 alliuhom it may concern.-
do declare the following tobe a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make'and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the figures of reference marked thereon,
which form a part of this specification.
My present invention relates to metal tanks, and has for its object to provide a means for bracing the upper rim of the tank in such a manner as to render the use of bolts or rivets unnecessary without decreasing the rigidity of the tank or rendering it liable to collapse. In this way a tank may be constructed with quite a saving of time, labor, and expense in comparison with the ordinary method of construction. I 7
My invention will presently be more fully described, and pointed out in the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
forming part of this specification, in which like reference-numerals refer to like parts throughout the several Views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a tank constructed according to my method, parts being broken away to show the pipe and inner surface of the tank. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail View of a portion of the tank and pipe. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the pipe, showing the means for joining the ends of same.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, 1 is the outer casing or drum of a metal tank, near the upper edge of which is provided a corrugation 2. Above corrugation 2 casing (N0 model.)
1 is bent or corrugated to form a semicircular groove or recess 3, in which is placed-a pipe 4. Fitting within the opening in one end, 5 or 6, of pipe at and held in place by means of an internal projection 7 or 8 in said pipe is a pin 9. When pipe 4 is placed in the groove 3, the portion of pin 9 projecting from one end of the pipe is inserted in the opening in the opposite end thereof and forced against an internal projection within that end as said ends of the pipe are brought together. The upper edge of the casing is then made to fit snugly around pipe 4:, forming a continuous brace for the top of the tank, thereby making it firm and substantial. The bottom of the tank may be constructed in any suitable manner, as my invention only has reference to the parts described.
I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact details of structure herein shown and described, inasmuch as the same formed by said corrugations, and a pin mounted in the ends of said tube'and adapted to bear against said projections.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EMANUEL E. NORQUIST.
