PATENT OEEIcE.
GEORGE J. PEACOCK, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- FOURTH TO CHARLES BONINI, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
ELECTRIC HEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,628, dated January 12, 1904.
Application filed April 19, 1902. Serial No- 103,'725. (N model.)
To (Ll/Z 1071,0717. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. PEACOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Electric Heaters, of which improvement the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in electric heaters, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby Water-plugs, switches, and the like may be prevented from freezing.
My present invention further contemplates to provide a heater that will be extremely simple in construction, strong, durable, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and highly eflicient in its use.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel'construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail refer ence is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which Figure l is a side elevation showing my improved heater applied to a water-plug. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the heater. Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 4c is a modification. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a view of one of the sections forming the interior casing.
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 represents the Water-plug, and 2 the supplypipe, said supply-pipe being surrounded by sections 3, forming a casing. An exterior casing 4, having formed therein partitions 5, surrounds the casing 3, this casing 4 and also the casing 3 being preferably constructed of non-conducting material, such as porcelain, glass, gutta-percha, or the like.
The reference-numeral 6 represents a filling of asbestos or like material, which is placed between the casings 3 and 4: and also between the partitions 5. Resistance-coils 9 are embedded in this protective insulating material (asbestos) in each of the partitions, these coils being connected by wires 10 to one another and to the binding-posts 8, from which lead Wires 7 to a suitable source of electrical supply.
The operation of my improved device will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction Without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with the supply-pipe of a water-plug, an electrical heating device comprising an inner insulating cylindrical casing adapted to fit upon the supply-pipe, an exterior casing of insulating material surrounding the same, partitions formed integral therewith, said partitions being filled with a protective insulating material, resistance-coils placed in each of said partitions and embedded in the protecting material, said coils being connected one with another, binding-posts carried by the external casing, means electrically connecting the coils with said posts and means electrically connecting the bindingposts with a suitable source of electrical supply, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
eEoReE J. PEACOOK.
In presence of JOHN GROETZINGER, M. HUNTER.
