UNITED STATES APATENT OFFICE. I
HENRY H. TAYLOR, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
INDOOR-GOLF GAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 713,253, dated November 1 1, 1902- Application filed October 4, 1902. Serial No. 125.923. (No model.)
To @ZZ wwwt it may concern,.-
Beit known that LHENRY H.TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Indoor-Golf Games; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in indoor or parlor golf games, and has for its object to provide a game of this description which shall be closely analagous to the ordinary outdoor game of golf both as to the manner of playing the same and also as to the general character of the ball and the surface upon which the game is played.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan View of my improved game; Fig. 2, a section at the' line ocx of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a detail section of the ball.
Similar characters of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
Heretofore games of this description have been provided, but no attention has'been paid to the character of the ball or the surface 'upon which the latter is played, and thus the game has practically lost its identity with the game ofgolf.
Myimprenkent aims to preserve the main characteristics ofthegame of golf and will be best understood from` the following description.
A is a foundation-board provided with sides B. Within this box-like receptacle thus formed is placed any suitable substance C, which may be wd, paperpulp, cefment, or the like, the upper surface ofwhich substance y vis irregular and rolling, so as to resemble the general layout of a golf-links,r The surface of this substance C 'is covered olgoaled all over with any suitable fuzzy..mate1ial, D, .which may be Hock, feltshoddy, or the like.
1 2 3 4`67`89717epresent thetees from which the ball is successfully driven in playing the game, and la 2iL 3n 4 5a 6a 7 8a 9a are the holes within which the ball is to be played,
the lines dotted in the circlearound each hole a representing the putting-greens.
E is the ball, which is made of any suitable substance and is covered with any fuzzy material F, such as flank, felt, shoddy, or the like.
The game is played precisely after the manner of the ordinary game of golf, any suitable mallets or clubs being used to strike the ball.
As the ball is propelled over the surface of the game-board it will not skitter, but will closely hug the surface of the board, and on this account only can the element of skill be brought into the game.
Having thus described my invention,wl1at I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
` In an indoorgolf game, a playing-board having an irregular rolling surface covered with fuzzy substance, tees and holes located at proper places throughout said board, and a ball made from suitable material and covered with a fuzzy substance, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY H. TAYLOR.
