UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES WV. FULLER, OF MEDIVAY, MASSACHUSETTS.
TRIANGLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 706,230, dated August 5, 1902. Application filed July 19, 1901. Serial No. 68,961. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medway, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Triangles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to triangles for use in bands and orchestras; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed.-
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of the entire instrument. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
A is a base-plate, and B is a standard, which projects ffom'one end portion of the baseplate.
0 is the triangle, which is suspended from the standard by a fine wire 0.
D is a foot-plate shod with an iron plate d at the other end of the base-plate from the standard.
E is the foot-lever, which is hinged to the foot-plate by a hinge e, and F is the springhammer, which projects from the front end of the foot-lever.
G is a spring, which normally holds the foot-lever in its raised position.
H is a damper of soft felt, supported by a bar h under the front end of the foot-lever.
I is a soft cushion secured upon the upper side of the foot-lever.
The triangle is sounded by depressing the foot lever with the foot and then releasing it, so that the hammer strikes a sharp blow on the triangle. The triangle will continue to sound for some time after it has been struck; but the sound may be stopped at any moment by pressingthe foot-levenonto the damper, so that the spring-hammer bears on the triangle and prevents it from vibrating.
What I claim is 1. The combination, with a base-plate pro vided with a foot-plate at one end and a stand ard at the other end, of a triangle suspended from the standard, a spring-supported footlever hinged at one end to one end of the said foot-plate, and a hammer-head provided with a spring-shankwhich is inserted in-the free end portion of the said foot-lever, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a base-plate provided with a foot-plate at one end and a standard at the other end, of a triangle suspended from the standard, a'spring operated foot-le ver pivoted at one end to the foot-plate, a spring-hammer projecting from the other end of the foot-lever and engagingwith the tri angle, and a damper of soft material secured to the base-plate under the front end portion of the said foot-lever, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W. FULLER.
