Be it known thatI, AUGUSTUS F. BRABANT,

a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Needle-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to cases or packages IO for needles, pins, and the like, and has forits object to provide a package or case for such use which shall be economical and simple in structure, capable of being folded into a compact form for carriage or storage, and which when in its open or unfolded condition will advantageously display its contents, so that they maybe all seen at a glance and all be in handy position to be taken from the package for use.

With this object'in View the invention consists in the improved package or case hereinafter fully described, the particular points of novelty being specifically set forth in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, in which a package or case embodying my invention is illustrated in detail, Figure 1 represents a perspective view with the package or case in its open or unfolded condition containing its full 0 complement of pins and needles. Fig. 2 represents a view in side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 represents a view of the package without con tents in side elevation and in its closed or folded condition. Fig. 4 represents in side elevation, on a reduced scale, a package provided with a folding stop to retain the parts in their open position, parts being broken away.

Like letters of reference indicate the same parts wherever they appear in the several figures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings by letters, A and B indicate the two members of the main body of the case of equal length,which maybe made of stiff paper, cardboard, thin veneer, celluloid, or any other light and fairly stiff material. These members A and B are connected together at a, after the manner of a hingejoint, and when the members are made of stiff paper, cardboard, or any other material which will permit of it they are made of a single piece, the joint at a being made by folding the material at this line.

C, D, and E are strips of the same (or corresponding) material as the members A and B, of progressively-increasing length, 0 being the shortest and E the longest, the latter being slightly shorter than the member A. These strips 0, D, and E are each attached to the member B at points 0 cl 6, after the manner of hinge-joints, the attachments being made in this instance with pieces 0 d e of flexible material pasted or cemented, respectively, to the strips 0 D Eand the member B.

F, G, and H are strips of suitable fairlystiff material located between the strips 0 and D and D and E and between the strips E and member A, connected to each of said strips and member after the manner of a hinge-joint at ff, g g, and h it, such connections being made in this instance by folding the ends of the strips F, G, and H at the lines of said joints and pasting or cementing the ends to the strips 0, D, and E and member A.

The strips 0, D, and E are regularly positioned on the member B, and the distances between joints a and e, c. and d, d and c, and between joint 0 and the outer end of member B are preferably equal to each other, as well as equal to the main bodies of strips F, G, and H and the length of strip 0, which is the ratio of difference in length of strips 0, D, and E and between strip E and member A. By means of this construction when the members A and B are placed at a right angle to each other the members G, D, and E will be at right angles to member B and parallel with member A and will be held in that relation by strips F, G, and H as long as the relative positions of members A and B are maintained, as in Figs. 1 and 2. When desired, the members A and B may be folded almost together, as in Fig. 3, in which position, by virtue of the connections and joints described, the strips 0, D, and E and connecting-strips F, G, and H will be folded close together, with the outer ends of the members A and B and strips 0, D, and E even, or substantially so, as shown, it being sometimes desirable to have members A and B slightly longer, so as to inclose the ends of needles and heads of pins projecting from strips 0, D, and E.

Should it be desired to use the package as a show-case or display-card, a folding leaf N is secured to member A at 71, after the manner of a hinge-joint, so that it may be folded against member B when the package is folded or placed at a right angle to member A, as shown in Fig. 2, in which latter position it will hold the members A and B at a right angle to each other, so that with the member-B as a base the package may be placed in a show-window or show-case to display its contents.

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

1. A needle package or case comprising two covers connected together at one end in a manner to permit of their being folded together or opened out to, or beyond a right angle, in combination with a plurality of strips, each strip being hinged at one end to the inside of one cover, and pivotally-connecting attaching devices between adjacent strips and between the last strip and the other cover, substantially as described.

2. A needle package or case comprising two covers connected together at one end in a manner to permit of their being folded together or opened out to, or beyond a right angle, in combination with a plurality of strips, each strip being hinged at one end to theinside of one cover, pivotally-connecting attaching devices between adjacent strips and between the last strip and the other cover, and'a folding stop pivotally attached to one cover and adapted to engage the other cover to prevent the covers being folded together, substantially as described.
