TO ALL WHOM IT MKY CONCERN:
Be it known thntwe, GEORGE S. YIN(lLING and SAMUEL F. lo'onnmm'of Tiflin, in the county of Seneca,
and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Masher and Cooler for Brewers-,-
and Distillers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference inorked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, muking part of this specification, A represents :1. shaft, which stands in a vertical position in a mashing or cooling-tub used by distillers or brewers, having a bearing at its lower end in the bottom of the tub, and also one at its upper end, in a. cross-bur which lies neross the tub. 13 represents a cross-- bar, which is passed through or into on opening which is out at right angles to and through thesheft A, with its ends projecting on each side of said shuft nearly to the sides of the tub. C- C represent a series'of rounds, which are passed through the shaft A at right angles to it, and at a, suitable distance npnrt. Erepresents a cross-bar, which is also passed through the shaft A nt right angles to it, near its lower end, the opening which receives it being-cut at right angles to the opening which receives the cross-bar B. At the lower end of the shaft A, and on each side of it, and also to the cross-bur E,.aresecured two stntionnry shovels or scrapers, F. To the lower ends of the two diagonal ,bn-rs D are secured the shovels or scrapers G G. The bars 1) are provided with inortises in their upper ends, which fit over tenons on the ends of the upper cross-bar B, undo-re -kept in position by pins which pass through the tenonsat their end The lower ends of the bars are provided not only with the shovels G G, but on the opposite side from said shovels with alnot'allic clump, H. The bars D run 'diagonally from the ends of bars B to'the bars E, and are confined to said burs E by means of the clamps H. The shovels are made slightly concave on one side, and the shovels G connect to shovels F, making a close.
joint, as seen. This shaft A, with its devices for mashing and cooling. is revolved in the tub in which it is placed, and keeps the material within said tub thoroughlystirred.
Having thus fully described our inventiornwhnt we clnini as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pntent,is
1. The use of the adjustable bars D D, provided at their lower ends with the shovels G G, which are used in connection with the shovels F F, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The arrangement of the shaft A, with its bars B, E, t'md D, its rounds C C, and the shovels G and F, the several parts being constructed and used as and forth purpose henein. specified.
' In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 12th dity of March,
GEO. S. YINGLING, SAMUEL F. POORMAN. Witnesses:
HI Gnoss, HENRY CnomwsLL.
