SPECIFICATION- Be it known that I, AMELIA B. HOFFMAN, of Roxbury, in the county of Norfolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Instrument for Removing Crumbs from a Table; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a'fnll, clear, and exact description of the construction and 'operation of the same, reference being had, to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification: i l
The nature of my invention consists in combining a crumb-scraper with a pan or receiver in such a. manner as to form oneV instrument to be used with one hand.
Figure 1 represents my said invention, (which I for use.
,A is the inside of the receiver,
style the crnmb-remover,) as it sets upon a tale ready in which the crumbs are deposited after they are taken up. Bis the blade or scraper, which rests upon and covers thel front side of the receiver, and curving outwards, so as to present a` slight coneavity, terminatesvn aV plane surface with a sharp edge in contact with the table. C is the handle by which the instrument is operated and to which the blade, B, is attached, and which passes through and turns in a hole and socket inserted in the rim of the receiver at each extremity of the blade. By turning the handle a rotary motion is ,gi-ven to the scraper for the purpose of Vemptying crumbs i'to the receiver. This operation is shown in Y Figure 2, which represents the crumb-remover with the scraper turned up, exposing to view the under side ofthe blade, B, and the front side, D, (beforementioned,) of the receiver.
The operation of my said invention may be described as follows: When lifted by lthe handleC, the blade B, being in the position delineated in-g. 1, presses against the front side of the receiver and holds it firmly balanced in a horizontal position. AWhen placed upon theV table and slid forward over the table-cloth, the blade B, (still remaining in the position of iig. 1,)' scrapes up the crumbs as it proceeds, and when turned up into the position shown in fig.l 2, it deposits the crumbs in the receiver. Then, being turned hack to its'irst position, the operation is repeated until all the crumbs are taken up.
The receivermay be made in a. semicircular form, as delineated in the drawing, orit may be made in any form or of any material that is adapted to its purpose, provided only that it has a straight side in front corresponding to the side D, as shown in iig. 2.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is' The combination of a pan or receiver A, with a blade or scraper B, in the manner and for, the purpose described.4
