Description

(No Model.)
I. JAG 0B.-
SLEEPING BAG.
Patented Feb. 15, 1898."
Wiinesses UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND JACOB, or DINSLAKEN, GERMANY.
SLEEPING-BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 598,995, dated February 15, 1898.
Application filed A ril 7, 1397.
To all whom it may concern.- I Be it known that I, FERDINAND JAcoB, manufacturer, of Dinslaken, Rhenish Prussia, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sleeping-Bags, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a sleeping-bag supplied with a water-tight cover capable of being easily rolled up, and which is especially adapted to'beused while staying in the country, during hunting and mountain expeditions, maneuvers, and in the tropics.
In the. accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a sleeping-bag in a perspective view while being used. Fig. 2 shows the sleepingbag when rolled up.
The sleeping-bag consists of a bag-like part c and a pillow d, buttoned to it. The bag is preferably arranged in such a manner that two-thirds of its length, taken from the upper aperture, may be opened and closed, thus enabling a person to get into the bag easily. The pillow d is connected with a foldable protecting-cover 0, having the form of a hood and being supplied at its free end with a curtain f, divided at e.
The bars I) of the protecting-cover a consist, preferably, of three parts, one of a greater length in the center and two shorter ones at the side, which are rotatorily connected with each other by rivets 9. Each jointed curve 11 may, when the bag is rolled up, be placed in a suitable position, so that when folded back the protecting-cover may occupy as little space as possible in the rolled-up bag. The joints are therefore not only destined to stretch the protecting-cover, but principally serve to give it a peculiar form, and for this reason are only lightly constructed. The ends of the j oint-bars are not connected to the pivots h. The arrangement of the protectingcover renders the folding down Very easy, so that the surfaces of the pillow, preferably Serial No. 631,128. (No modelJ' The closing .of the bag-shaped part. a can be effected by means of 'buttonholes and buttons, as may be seen from the drawings, or in any other suitable manner-for instance, by means of buttons and knots.
The sleeping-bag is made of a soft woolen flexible water-tight material and may be prepared in a minute and folded up again in the same time.
The sleeping-bag-weighs only about three kilograms and may be folded up with a strap, so as to form a handy package to be carried without inconvenience.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sleeping-bag comprising the bag-like body portion having a lateral flap whereby said bag may be opened lengthwise, the pillow at one end, the jointed curved frames b, b, pivotally held and extending up over the pillow, the flexible covering about said frames forming a hood with a space between the same and the body of the bag and a curtain extending from the upper and side edges of the curved brace b to the upper and curved sides i FERDINAND JACOB.
